Dental crap

The tooth thread on the main page made me wonder if any of you know dental remedies.

My teeth are complete crap. Never had a cavity as a kid. Joined the military and started getting free dental care--normal preventive stuff. Then suddenly my teeth went to crap. Blech. Currently, dozens of cavities, at least a couple of abcesses, some half rotted away. Pain is constant but some days are better than others. Haven't been able to afford a dentist (other than an emergency extraction for $100 last year when I could no longer function). Will hopefully be able to at least take out a loan next year to get some of the worst work done but until then... Last dentist quoted us $6,000 to $10,000 to get the major stuff done. Ouch. Other than that, I'm an incredibly healthy person.

I need ideas that are pregnancy and breastfeeding-friendly, obviously. I know the basic infection-fighting remedies already but feel free to give those, too, in case I missed any. I cannot do clove anything--makes me horribly sick.

Thanks!!

Booger....first and foremost make sure you are getting enough calcium and Vit D in your diet. Yogurts, milks, greens, cheeses, etc. Get 20 minutes of sunshine (if you can) on your bare skin daily -- source of Vitamin D. If babies do not get enough calcium from your diet, they begin to strip from your bones and teeth.

Now, do 2x a day, a straight drug store grade peroxide swish in your mouth, without swallowing. Let it foam up and then rinse out with water, again do not swallow. The peroxide will help with any infection. Infection can easily go systemic if you are not careful. Also, brushing with a baking soda and peroxide paste will help gum health.

If things get too bad, tea tree oil is a great infection fighter too but it has to be really diluted or it will burn the mucous membrane in your mouth.

If I remember anything else I will repost. AddyRose.

Booger,
I went through the same thing when I was pregnant for babies 4,5, and 6. I had little problems with the first three pregnancies. To ease the pain from the toothaches I rinsed my mouth out with salt water several times a day. It also helped with an abscess.

Thanks for the ideas!

I forgot to mention in my OP that I am having the 2 abcesses done in December. (Sorry. It's been one of those days.) Not sure yet how we're paying for those but they are getting done anyway. I just need to survive until then and, after that, keep the other borderline ones from progressing too quickly.

Booger, I knew there was something I forgot to tell you. If you are near a dental school, they have free or reduced fee clinics so the students can practice. You may want to look into going there to save some money and get your teeth worked on a little quicker. AddyRose.

That Dental School suggestion is a good one. Recently sent my friend to one. He came back really happy with them. Said that the "Student Dentist" did the work, and was very very careful how he did it because he was being graded on his work, and the "Instructor Dentist" was literally looking over his shoulder.

I already checked out the dental school/college thing and it won't work for us. Believe me, I've checked out every option over the past couple of years, over and over. I appreciate the ideas, though! :)

Booger, Make some mouthwash with tea tree oil in it. You can also just add some to a commercial mouthwash. Make some Colloidal Silver and add some of that, too. Take the CS internally to combat the infection from within. I had a cavity that was working on my nerve and hurt way into my ear. I started taking CS 3x/day in a shotglass and within one day, the pain started to ease. If you can kill the bacteria causing that abcess, you might be able to save yourself a bunch of money. If you aren't pregnant, you might also wish to try some olive leaf. I took 3 capsules of just plain ground leaf 3x/day and it helped a lot. Hope you get to feeling better quickly. Your kids need you at peak efficiency. ;)

I give up.
One other, I think I read it around here somewhere too:

Take a slug of mouthwash and hold it in your mouth, swishing it around, for 5 minutes.

Do not take too long when you get a toothache that's really bad. I did that a couple years ago, like a fool, and I woke up one morning with my face all red and swollen up to my eyeball. I could have died. I had to go immediately for emergency care and NARCOTIC pain killers for 3 days. You don't want to go through that. Ever....... Someone I know did let an abscess go and almost did die. Ended up in the hospital on the critical list for two weeks and lost half her body weight and lost all her teeth too.
