The pattern really got going with the "bailout" in 2008.
Buried in a monster bill that was waived the three day lockdown on votes was a provision that allowed Ben Bernanke to set bank reserves to zero. It was one line in a monstrosity that Hank Paulson insisted on being passed after his "one page" equivalent, which gave him sole authority on $700 billion dollars of public money, went down in defeat a day earlier. I caught it and reported on it but nobody in the Legislature said a single word about it at the time, likely because they didn't actually read the whole thing and thus other than the snake who put it in there didn't know it existed.
The came Obamacare, which I actually stayed up all night to read. It was another of those "ream of paper plus" bills that was to be voted on the next day, again under suspension of the rules. I have four monitors here on a "spider" stand arranged in a big rectangular and angled panel, which is necessary for such analysis because bills typically have language such as "in Section X of US code strike this paragraph and insert the following", so if you want to know what the bill does you must look up all the cross-references. This means you can't just read it; you must go through all those links as well, and read as much of the underlying legislation as is necessary to gain the contextual understanding so you know what's being proposed.

It took me all night fueled by my espresso machine.

This bill can't be read and comprehended overnight by any human. I am an extraordinarily fast reader and retain excellent comprehension when I exercise that skill; it is likely I'm in the 99th percentile in that regard. This bill is some five timesthe size, and thus physically impossible for a Congressperson or Senator to read prior to having to vote on it. It is therefore fraud by definition and, until and unless every person who has to vote on it can physically read it (should they choose to do so) it cannot be otherwise. For we, the people to permit such "laws" to be passed is an abomination; no government that does this is legitimate, ever, no matter what party is in power or for what purpose said things are put forward.

No Representative or Senator represents the people who elected said person when they vote for a bill under these circumstances. There is no excuse for it, ever, and there is particularly no excuse when this circumstance arises due to deliberate delay in the appropriations process that has been gutted and ginned up over the space of nearly two decades by both political parties. Were God to smote the Capitol with a meteor while the House is in session in response I'd have to offer a toast, and were the allegedly-represented people to choose a similar course of action I could no more than smirk. A man or woman who takes an oath under knowing false pretense, and to even contemplate such a bill and offer and allow it to come to the the floor, say much less vote for it, is sufficient evidence of willful false swearing as to their oath of office.

This is not a partisan issue and it matters not if you support whatever is purported to be in said legislation because by definition you cannot know that the effect of said legislation is in fact what is represented. For this reason the very premise of such a bill is fraudulent and fraud vitiates all agreements including any obligation of the citizens to follow any law whether that law constrains economic or physical acts.

This was trivially able to be stopped when it began more than 15 years ago with a simple rules change: No bill can be brought to the floor for a vote until and unless one business day of the chamber, in session, has passed for each one hundred pages of conformed text of legislation, and said legislation once published must be invariant.

That's it. If you want to bring a bill to the floor that requires nearly a full box of 20lb bond to print you can -- but you can't vote on it until the chamber has been in session for 40 business days after you issue, print and distribute it.
So why hasn't this been put into the rules of either chamber despite both GOP and Democrats holding same during the intervening years, and thus being fully capable of doing so as the majority party holds sway on the chamber's Rules Committee?

Indeed isn't this one of the issues with McCarthy's bid for Speaker? It's not just one of the issues it is the issue; there are a handful of GOP Representatives who insist on the return to regular order for appropriations bills which forbids what is being done right now. Yet McCarthy will not move on this refusal to change the House Rules back to what they were prior to these events, returning the appropriations process to regular order where the usual set of bills must go through the relevant committees where they can receive scrutiny and votes before being discharged to the floor for debate and enactment. That regular order process prevents deliberate sandbagging and fraud upon the public as has been repeatedly practiced for more than a decade by both political parties, a criminal act as it is our money and not theirs they are spending, never mind the debt they accumulate in spending more than they tax. A person who steals repeatedly and without penance in Muslim lands often finds him or herself missing some fingers and there is a quite-clean argument to be made that said punishment is not only just it is necessary to deter recidivism.

One need only look at the last 15 years in our Legislature to find that virtually all of the members in same are in fact not just recidivists they don't believe they did anything wrong in the first place.

This nation will fiscally fail if this pattern is not interrupted and when it does all the "polite society" things you enjoy today, even the very simple ones such as going to the mailbox without being shot by some some jackass who simply doesn't like you or wants to steal the Amazon package in said mailbox will disappear.

There are in fact places today in this country where that's true, but for most of us its not. Talk to the former mother of a black child who took a round in the face while simply outside in their yard in Chicago; that kid did nothing wrong and neither did his parents but the general premise of a polite society no longer exists there and gangbangers are notoriously poor marksman.

That can in fact come to where you live whether you believe it or not, and in other nations it reliably has when fiscal ruin has been served up as a result of the same sort of nonsense we've been playing with on an ever-increasing basis for the last two decades.

All bills (and laws) should be in "The COMMON LANGUAGE"....i.e. PLAIN English.....absolutely no legalese B.S., ......and NO RIDERS, NO ADDITIONS, nothing different from the SINGLE SUBJECT that the bill was originally written for. Outlaw ALL PORK!!

AND....for every bill to be voted on THREE OLDER LAWS must be removed. Eventually we'll get down to the very core of the laws necessary......like.....perhaps the TEN COMMANDMENTS!!

BREAKING: We didn't make it out of the C last names and McCarthy already lost 5 GOP votes, which means he does not have the votes on the first ballot to be Speaker.

The Speaker vote will go to a second ballot for the first time in 100 years.
