Girl testifies uncle slit her throat after he killed her mother in 2009 in Oak Cliff

07:24 AM CDT on Thursday, September 2, 2010
By JENNIFER EMILY / The Dallas Morning News
jemily@dallasnews.com

An 8-year-old girl so tiny that her mouth was hidden by the witness stand testified Wednesday that she saw her uncle stab her mother moments before he cut the girl's throat.

The child spoke briefly in Spanish through an interpreter about seeing Edgar Murga kill her mother at their east Oak Cliff home in June 2009.

When asked if she saw her uncle in the courtroom, the girl initially said she didn't. But as she glanced around, she quickly looked away when she looked in the direction of Murga, who is charged with capital murder in the slaying of his 32-year-old sister-in-law, Alma Arenas-Perez.

When Dallas County prosecutor Kendall Castello asked the girl how she felt when she saw her uncle stab her mother, the girl replied that she was "sad."

"He stuck it in here," the girl said, pointing to her chest. "In my mother's chest."

Then, the girl told jurors, "he cut my neck and then he left."

No-Pants Rapist Identified, Hunted: Police

Police: Rapist would have killed woman if people hadn't heard her screams

By TERESA MASTERSON
Updated 12:03 AM EDT, Sat, Sep 4, 2010

Police say they know the identity of the man who choked and raped a 22-year-old woman near a Center City bus stop Sunday and ran away, leaving his pants behind.

A local and federal manhunt is on for Alberto Isaac Navarrete Suarez -- wanted for rape and attempted murder, police say.

Suarez, who ran away from the crime scene in his underwear, left a pair of pants with a fake ID in the pocket. Though the Mexican ID had a different name and finger print identification, police were able to identify Suarez’ true identity by leads that came from the finger print belonging to a man deported several years ago, according to officials.

Philadelphia Police and the FBI have issued local and federal arrest warrants for Suarez.

Suarez, also known as Dario Gomez Lopez, worked odd jobs and had a last known address of 2618 S. 7th Street in Philadelphia, police say.

The 22-year-old victim was standing at a SEPTA bus stop at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday when Suarez grabbed her and dragged her toward the Ridge Avenue Spur station of the Broad Street Subway.

Less than a block away from Philadelphia Police headquarters, Suarez violently choked and raped the woman, police say.

Secure Communities Removes More than 5,500 Criminal Aliens from LA County

Secure Communities leads to removal of more than 5,500 convicted criminal aliens from LA County in first year

LOS ANGELES - Since its activation in Los Angeles County a year ago, the biometric information sharing capability deployed as part of the Secure Communities initiative has resulted in the identification and removal of more than 5,500 convicted criminal aliens from the United States who were encountered by local law enforcement in the county.

The information sharing capability, a key component of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) comprehensive strategy to enhance efforts to identify and remove convicted criminal aliens from the country, uses biometric identification to alert ICE when potentially removable aliens are arrested by local law enforcement.

Of the 5,585 aliens removed from Los Angeles County in the last year, nearly 2,500 are considered Level 1 offenders, which includes those convicted of serious or violent crimes, such murder, sexual assault and robbery. Another 2,540 are Level 2 offenders, which includes individuals with convictions for offenses such as arson, burglary and property crimes. As part of the Secure Communities strategy, ICE is prioritizing its enforcement efforts to ensure individuals who pose the greatest threat to public safety are removed first.

Charges dropped for sick illegal immigrant

By Craig Schneider
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

AJC Exclusive: Inmate's medical bill reaches $400,000 while in Douglas County custody

An illegal immigrant charged with trafficking cocaine worth millions of dollars suffered a massive stroke in the Douglas County jail earlier this year and ran up $400,000 in medical bills that were charged to the county.

Craig Schneider, cschneider@ajc.com Luis Luna Baro was charged with trafficking cocaine in Douglas County, and the illegal immigrant then suffered a massive stroke while in custody. He ran up a medical bill of $400,000. County officials dropped the charges, in part because it freed them of future costs.
Authorities in Douglas decided to dismiss the charges against Luis Luna Baro, 71 -- in large part because the county didn't want to cover his bills anymore, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has learned.

"He was an illegal alien," District Attorney David McDade said. "He did not have legal status to be in the United States, and the taxpayers were going to be asked to pay for his care. Is justice served by dismissing charges when the man has basically been sentenced by God? ... I think so."

Baro's case is an extreme example, but city and county jails all over metro Atlanta face the same challenge: paying medical expenses for illegal immigrants who happen to be lodged in the jail when they get sick, or who bring chronic illnesses to jail with them. Local law enforcement officials say Douglas County did the right thing and saved its taxpayers a whopping bill.

California fire started by illegal aliens is only the latest... press ignores
According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, the cost of fighting the so-called Cowboy fire, burning just south of San Diego County has so far, reached $2,325,537. The blaze was started last Thursday by two illegal aliens...

Roxanne Provaznik, a spokesperson for Cal Fire said the two were lost and “called C4, which is Mexico’s emergency dispatch system and advised them that they had been lost for two days, were stranded, dehydrated, and were going to light a signal fire to attempt to get some help.”

It has taken the efforts of 341 firefighters, along with 10 planes, and 22 fire trucks to contain the fire which has destroyed 830 acres.

37 immigrants rescued from drop house

06:47 PM PDT on Wednesday, September 8, 2010

By STEVEN BARRIE
The Press-Enterprise

A drop house used by a human-smuggling operation was raided by federal immigration agents, who found 37 undocumented immigrants crammed into a locked bedroom, living in squalid conditions.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents searched a home in the 1800 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard in Riverside on Tuesday afternoon, the immigration enforcement agency said in a news release.

Inside, they found the 37 immigrants, all stripped of their shoes to keep them from running away, living in a room with the windows boarded up and the door locked from the outside, the agency said. Some of the immigrants told agents they had not eaten in days.

Police impostors kidnap two in west Phoenixby

PHOENIX -- Three police impostors smashed their way into a west Phoenix home and briefly kidnapped two men early Tuesday.

The victims were released unharmed in the north Valley, Phoenix Police Sgt. Alex Ortiz said.

He said the suspects -- two men and a woman -- "were looking for drugs and cash."

Ortiz added, "We don't know if it was random or they were targeted. We still haven't talked to the victims yet. We still haven't entered our crime scene and investigated the interior of the residence."

He said the suspects, posing as police officers, entered the home near 35th Avenue and Missouri and, "They duct-taped, actually zip-tied, some of the homeowners. After ransacking the house, they abducted two of the individuals here and called in, started asking for ransoms, cash money."

Ortiz said the victims were afraid to return home or talk to police because of their immigration status and because they feared they would be deported.

Robert Benn was killed by a DUI illegal alien:

http://www.StandWithArizona.com

See video report here

How many DWI convictions does it take for an illegal alien to be jailed on an "immigration detainer" by ICE? One? Two? Three? Nope. Try FOUR + a homicide. Robert Benn of Tennessee was struck and killed soon after he landed in Austin for a business trip by Jaime Bonilla, an illegal with 3 prior DWI convictions, yet roaming free in the sanctuary city of Austin. The people of TX and TN must DEMAND answers from ICE, DHS and the City of Austin as to why this illegal alien slimeball felon was free to drink and drive again...and KILL. After sister Denise Mosier in VA, how many more Americans have to die before ICE takes these monsters off the streets?

Video report:

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - The 20-year-old illegal immigrant arrested for sexually assaulting a 6-year old girl at an Albuquerque gym on Tuesday had been accused of raping children before. After he was arrested, he told police he liked to touch children.

Gonzalez was arrested for raping two young girls at party when he was 15 years old in 2005. Those charges were later dismissed by a children's court judge after Gonzalez was found to be incompetent. Gonzales was released into the custody of his parents and ordered to attend counseling. Court records that would explain the decision to dismiss the 2005 case are confidential due because Gonzales was a minor at the time.

Albuquerque police said they had another case against Gonzalez in 2008. However, charges in that case were never filed by the Bernalillo County District Attorney's office. The DA's office said the reasons for not filing charges are also confidential because of medical privacy laws. The mother of one of the victims in the 2005 incident, who wished to remain unidentified, said she feared Gonzalez would strike again.

"It was just a matter of time," the mother said. "Unfortunately, this little girl had to get hurt [on Tuesday]. My prayers go out to her."

Albuquerque police expressed frustration that Gonzalez was able to be in a position to commit the same crime again.

"We have a serial rapist out there," Deputy Chief Beth Paiz said. "We've prepared three separate cases and now our fourth case, letting the justice system know what kind of human being this is. And, here we are again."

Police realized Juan Gonzalez is an illegal immigrant Tuesday night when they checked his ID which indicated he is a Mexican national. Gonzalez will first face charges for Tuesday's incident. He'll be sent back to Mexico when he gets out of jail or after he gets out of prison if he's convicted.

MISSION VIEJO A man in the country illegally has been stalking a middle school girl since January and was arrested by Sheriff's Department investigators after trying to set up a meeting with the young girl, authorities said.

Jose Manuel Dominguez, a 38-year-old construction worker, was arrested at the Emerald Pointe apartments just after 8 p.m. Monday when he showed up to rendezvous with the girl, said Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino. An immigration hold was put on Dominguez when he was booked into Orange County jail, Amormino said.

According to the girl, Dominguez came up to her Monday morning at Carl Hankey K-8 School and said he had seen her in a grocery store Jan. 1, Amormino said. The girl had been in that grocery store that same day, Amormino said.

He continued to engage the girl in "inappropriate conversation" and asked her about her schedule and when she liked to take walks, Amormino said.
Dominguez then, according to the girl, asked her for her phone number and said he wanted to meet her that night at 8 pm. at the Emerald Pointe apartments, Amormino said. After Dominguez left, the girl told school officials, who then called the Sheriff's Department.

Sex crimes investigators went to the meeting place and arrested Dominguez, Amormino said.

"The scary thing is he knew where she went to school and what neighborhood she was in," Amormino said.

Rash of Decapitations Hit U.S./Mexico Border - 16 Killings Past Week in Tj

Rash of Decapitations Hit U.S.-Mexico Border City This Week
Beheadings, hangings plague Tijuana amid festival
Friday, October 15, 2010
By Mariana Martinez, Associated Press

TIJUANA, Mexico — A rash of decapitations and other gruesome killings have hit Tijuana since Mexican President Felipe Calderon visited the border city last week and called it a success in his drug war. The most recent killing occurred just before midnight Tuesday when motorists found a decapitated body underneath a bridge on a road leading to the beachside neighborhood of Playas de Tijuana, according to a police report Wednesday. Reporters at the scene saw a rope hanging from the bridge, suggesting the man had been hung from his feet but was too heavy and plunged into oncoming traffic.

The discovery came a day after two other beheaded bodies were found hanging from their feet in Tijuana. Police said they were still conducting forensic tests on the body found Tuesday and had no immediate comment on the identity of the man or the circumstances of his death. Earlier Tuesday, police found a human head inside a bag in another Tijuana neighborhood, but it did not belong to the body found underneath the bridge. According to police reports, at least 16 people have been killed in the city since Sunday — a surge from the normal rate of about two homicides a day.

Some resident feared the cartels were trying to send a message just as the city is trying to promote itself to the outside world. Calderon last week inaugurated "Innovative Tijuana," a two-week festival featuring discussions on aerospace, auotomotives and other industries that drive the city's economy. Former Vice President Al Gore is scheduled to give a speech about the environment as part of the festival Thursday. "Obviously, they don't want it to seem like we are a society of good people. That's why they are doing these things again," said Victoria Perez Bernal, a retired dentist who along with 2,000 others attended the inauguration of the festival last week. "But what they don't know is that people are tired of this and we are starting to get organized."

. . . . . . . While killings have continued, the most gruesome displays of cartel violence — decapitations, hangings and daylight shootouts — had subsided. That sort of violence has continued to plague other cities in Mexico's northern states of Chihuahua, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas. "These hangings from bridges, heads, shootouts ... it hadn't happened for a long time," said Hector Elizaga, 40, who works at a Tijuana company that imports cars. "It seems like they are telling the president: 'What control? We are still in charge here.'" At a news conference Tuesday, Baja California state Deputy Attorney General Fermin Gomez attributed the killings this week to internal disputes among the remnants of Garcia's gang.

In an interview with the AP last week, Calderon agreed that crime continues in Tijuana and said it was likely murders will fluctuate as long as cartels continue to war over drug markets and routes to the United States. But he said other crimes, such as kidnapping and extortion, are down, and he stood by his claim that Tijuana is a success story in his war against organized crime. "Crime has dropped dramatically since its peak in 2008," Calderon said. "Tijuana went from being a city seized by terror and focused only on questions of crime to a city motivated by hope and focused on pursuing a competitive edge in the region."

In Chihuahua state Wednesday, six prison guards were killed while driving to work in Chihuahua city, the state's capital, authorities reported. In the northern state of Sinaloa, two police officers were killed when gunmen ambushed their patrol in Mazatlan. It was the second ambush of police in Sinaloa this week — eight officers were killed Monday when gunmen opened fire on their patrol cars.

Associated Press writers Olivia Torres in Ciudad Juarez and Alexandra Olson and Kathy Corcoran in Mexico City contributed to this report.
