[Comments] Fiction: Rioting in Arabia & the oil stops flowing

We need to read each other's timelines carefully. As Alan brought up we should try to avoid conflicting tales.

After my diversion with a short border war in late November/early December and the breakup of the US in mid-December 05 , I plan on having a war with Mexico as retaliation for their attack, to roll back the threat to our oil fields and to seize their oil fields. I think a joint venture with the Southern Confederacy and the Greater Northwest Alliance would work well.

As 2004 closes, I have left Colorado teetering on the edge of becoming a third world nation and not aligned with any of the new nations. New Mexico will join the SC. I have no idea where the Republic of California will go. I plan of staying local in events from here on with the exception of the Mexican incursion.

I write these pieces partly as a planning aid - in fact, LdyH and I sat down today and worked on our "Things to get done in the next 12 months" list...

I'm considering snagging some of my "Awakening" posts and "recycling" them for this.

i've certainly enjoyed reading the story thus far, and i'm eager to see how things pan out. will the mexican war be the spark that reunifies a broken united states? only time will tell, i guess!

i'm considering jumping into this thread soon with my own contribution. so far, all your protagonists have had their, uh, stuff...together, and they were all prepared to deal with the changing world. how about i weigh in with the other side of the coin, ie; the people who never saw it coming and find themselves scrambling to make alliances with others to save what's left of their lives.

i don't think i'll have any problems integrating into the existing storylines as they are, and i'll make an effort to stick within the story parameters.

you guys rock.

chimpuat, it is those who survive who tell their tales. But i do understand what you meant. My character (me) had to barter and find a lot of the things it took to survive after the first few weeks. Many of the neighbors couldn't or wouldn't admit that the days of cheap gas and food were gone and folded up. It was those bail-outs that let me expand my garden and grazing area for the goats and chickens.

Kitchen/subsistance farming in suburbia is difficult without the room many have in the country. This story has given me a much greater impitus to move out to a larger piece of land on high(er) ground and get a well put in even if it has city water and sewer. I am also studying indigenous crops that give a higher food value to the pinto beans and rice which is my current staple.

We've had other shared story fiction threads in the past and some contributors have done what you outline above. A couple of those were very, very good - even if they didn't survive.

This is the first of the fiction I have read on the site, and am really overwhelmed by how good it all is. I have forwarded the link to my children, and hope they will read the thread, since they think I am "daft" for worrying about preparedness.

If I get something to put in, it will be along the lines of one family member getting it, and her struggles to prepare the rest of the family, who would prefer not to think about it.

Yes it does an I am scare spitless. I am still a few months short of ready to even hope to make it for more than a few weeks. Living on a fixed income sucks. I need to win at least $2k in a lottery or fin a sugar momma to buy the last of the stuff I think that I really need.
