Chinese Migrant Suddenly Found on California Military Base

Nick Mordowanec

The arrest of a Chinese national at a Marine Corps base in California is spurring many questions.
The presence of Chinese nationals on American soil has been on lawmakers' radar for months, given the recent influx of migrants at the southern and northern borders and exacerbated tensions with the Chinese Communist Party.

Republican Senators Joni Ernst and Marco Rubio are among nearly three dozen members of Congress who have requested visa changes through the Department of Homeland Security. They told Newsweek earlier this week that Chinese nationals' ability to enter U.S. territories like Guam through the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands without proper B-1 (business) or B-2 (tourism) visas should be immediately addressed with reform.

On Friday, Border Patrol chief agent Gregory Bovino wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that agents responded to a call from a Marine base about a Chinese national in the El Centro Sector "who entered the base without authorization, ignoring orders to leave."
"Subject was confirmed to be in the country illegally," Bovino wrote, along with an image of the suspect. "His purpose & intent behind his actions are still being investigated."

Newsweek reached out to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials via email for comment.
Jon Feere, director of investigations at the Center for Immigration Studies and a former senior adviser to the director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, questioned how the migrant ended up in the U.S. in the first place.

"Illegally here because he overstayed/violated a visa? Or Illegally here because he crossed the border without inspection?" Feere wrote on X.
Gordon Chang, a journalist who has covered China for decades, wrote: "We have to assume this #Chinese national is a soldier or operative of some sort. Send him to #Guantanamo."

The El Centro Sector, located in Southern California's Imperial Valley, has existed for nearly 100 years and covers 410 square miles and 70 miles of international border. It is home to four Border Patrol stations in the cities of El Centro, Calexico, Indio and Riverside.
California has experienced an increase in Chinese migrants in recent years. There were approximately 15,700 Chinese migrant encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border in roughly the first three months of the current fiscal year, which began October 1. Those numbers already surpass the approximately 14,600 encounters in the entire 2023 fiscal year, according to CBP data.

Earlier this week, the Department of Justice indicted seven Chinese nationals suspected of hacking on China's behalf for over 14 years.

Illegal Immigrant from China Detained After Illegally Entering Marine Corps Base — Security Concerns Prompt Investigation

A Chinese national has been detained after illegally entering a Marine Corps base in the El Centro Sector on Friday, sparking a federal investigation into the incident.

The unnamed individual was apprehended on a U.S. Marine base after reportedly ignoring orders to vacate the premises.

Border Patrol Chief Agent Gregory Bovino shared the incident on X. Bovino revealed that the subject had been confirmed as being in the country illegally.

An accompanying image of the suspect was posted, though details about the individual’s identity remain undisclosed.

“His purpose & intent behind his actions are still being investigated,” Bovino wrote.

The breach has raised questions regarding national security and the processes through which individuals gain access to sensitive areas.

Newsweek reported:

Jon Feere, director of investigations at the Center for Immigration Studies and a former senior adviser to the director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, questioned how the migrant ended up in the U.S. in the first place.

“Illegally here because he overstayed/violated a visa? Or Illegally here because he crossed the border without inspection?” Feere wrote on X.

The Gateway Pundit previously reported that the Department of Justice Office of Public Affairs announced charges against seven hackers associated with the Chinese Communist Government for targeting perceived critics of China and US businesses and politicians.

The seven Chinese hackers were named in the DOJ press release.

The victims were politicians from both parties and critics of the Chinese Communist regime. However, the politicians were not named in the DOJ report.

‘Surging Numbers’ Of Chinese Migrants Attempting To Illegally Enter U.S. Island Home To Vital Military Bases, Homeland Security Committee Chair Warns

Chinese nationals are illegally entering Guam, posing a “major cause for concern” for the island which is home to an important U.S. military base and around 20,000 American troops, Chair of the House Homeland Security Committee Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) told The Daily Mail.

Since 2022, Guam Customs and Quarantine has reported 118 unlawful or attempted unlawful entries by Chinese nationals, agency spokeswoman Alana Chargualaf-Afaisen told Stars and Stripes. There were 85 cases of attempted illegal entry into Guam by Chinese migrants in 2022, followed by 27 in 2023, and six so far in 2024.

Guam is just under 2,000 miles from the Chinese mainland and is home to Naval Base Guam, the only U.S. Navy submarine base in the western Pacific. The island also hosts America’s main Pacific bomber fleet at Andersen Air Force Base.

“Count on the Chinese Communist Party to exploit every potential vulnerability on the map. What the CCP is doing in Guam is almost certainly no exception,” Green told the Mail. “The United States maintains a significant military presence on the island, a vital outpost for helping America defend our strategic interests in the region.”

The “surging numbers of Chinese nationals coming into Guam” is a “major cause for concern, in part because we simply do not know for what purpose these individuals are coming,” Green said, adding, “It’s not just rising numbers of Chinese nationals illegally crossing our Southwest border that demands attention—what’s happening in Guam does, as well.”

The Department of Homeland Security told Stars and Stripes that the Chinese migrants are mainly going to Guam for economic reasons. Special Agent in Charge John Tobon of Homeland Security Investigations in Honolulu said, “The one thing about all those individuals is that they are all vetted before they are admitted into Saipan.”

“Once they’re in Saipan, they may try to come over to Guam, but the overwhelming majority are really doing it for economic reasons,” Tobon added.

Republicans, such as Green and Iowa Sen. Joni Ernst, maintain apprehensions about the Chinese migrants, however, saying that loopholes in the Visa process allow bad actors to take advantage of the U.S. Last November, 32 Republicans wrote a letter, warning Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas of the loopholes.

“The Chinese Communist Party has already proven they will stop at nothing to infiltrate and outpace the United States, and I’m working to close loopholes that allow any further espionage,” Ernst told Newsweek on Wednesday. “We must put an end to Chinese nationals accessing our military installations on U.S. territories and conducting malign activity.”

Last month, CBS News reported that Chinese nationals are the fastest-growing group of illegal immigrants entering the U.S. Over 24,000 Chinese citizens were apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border in the past year, a number higher than the combined data on apprehensions from the ten previous years, according to a November report from The New York Times.

He was someone’s squeeze and spy. Look at his hands. Find out who likes boys on the base. He probably had something shoved somewhere personal.

Updated: CCP Capers: More than 100 episodes of Chinese nationals infiltrating military bases in U.S. -most recent on at California Marine base

According to the Daily Mail, there have been over 100 instances of Chinese nationals infiltrating military bases in the U.S. over the past few years.

The first things they would attack would be communications then the electrical grid. We've let a sizable force of young men into our country and btw, we're a little short on ammunition if it comes down to a fight. Maybe the Ukraine can sell us some of the stuff we gave them.

Finally not a lurker!
:hmm:
This reportedly happened yesterday in Carlsbad, California. A group of mostly military age males invaded our country illegally via boat and then dispersed throughout the city in cars. Are any of them on the terror watch list? Do any of them have a criminal history? We don’t know. We have no clue who’s in our country.
