Pests/Ctrl Chicken Moat

I am considering building a new garden complete surrounded by a chicken run, as a 'chicken moat' it seems to be called.

Has anyone here built one of these?

Looks like a neat way to control the weeds that grow up along the garden fence and help with the deer and woodchucks. I question how effective they are against bugs as most of the bugs that go after our garden fly.

Your chicken moat might need a top on it. My full-sized hens were able to clear a six to eight foot fence easily, even with one wing clipped.

One of the joys in life is watching your chickens jump, hop and fly up to catch swarming termites when they are flying off to new homes.

If/when I do it, the chicken area will need to be enclosed enough to protect from Hawks while I am not around.

You can manage that simply by crisscrossing some fishing line across the enclosure. Birds if prey are very leery of getting tangled or hitting anything when they stoop for prey.
