You can also look at the carb jets. Generally these run VERY lean from the factory for emissions, but a slight enrichment can really wake up a saw after you deal with the exhaust. (disclaimer: always make sure you follow all laws).
Generally, removing/opening up baffles in the muffler can help a LOT at the cost of additional noise. Also, pay attention to the intake as there are usually a lot of restrictions on the intake side as well. If the engine can't breathe, it won't produce any power. On some saws, a dremel can really help by opening up.radiusing all intake lines and runners. Sometimes, just removing mold flash can really help. ROunding all corners and edges to prevent tubulence can help too. I have seen as much as 10% improvements just making the airflow path cleaner.
Also, pay close attention to the gas mix. too much oil makes the saw run lean as well. More oil is not better.
