Here we go again! Need anything made in China, which is almost EVERYTHING these days, get it soon, like the next few days. This is on top of all the mandates relating to trucks and train crews, which may, or may not be imposed after SCOTUS' decision.

BRACE YOURSELF! The ‘Mother of All Supply Chain Shocks’ Is Coming as China Shuts Down Major Ports Due to Pandemic

As if there wasn’t enough bad economic news — The War Room opened their first hour on Friday warning viewers of the coming “mother of all supply chain shocks.”
Zero Hedge reported on the coming Biden crisis on Thursday.
And, as we have also discussed in recent weeks, one place where this growth slowdown is emerging – besides the upcoming deterioration in US consumption where spending is now being funded to record rates by credit cards before it encounters a troubling air pocket – is China and its “covid-zero” policy in general, and its covid-locked down ports in particular.

But what until recently was a minority view confined to our modest website, has since expanded and as Bloomberg writes overnight, the effects of restrictions in China as the country maintains its Covid-zero policy “are starting to hit supply chains in the region.” As a result of the slow movement of goods through some of the country’s busiest and most important ports means shippers are now diverting to Shanghai, causing the types of knock-on delays at the world’s biggest container port that led to massive congestion bottlnecks last summer that eventually translated into a record number of container ships waiting off the coast of California, a glut that hasn’t been cleared to this day.

With sailing schedules already facing delays of about a week, freight forwarders warn of the impact on already back-logged gateways in Europe and the US and is also why HSBC economists are warning that the world economy could be headed for the “mother of all” supply chain shocks if the highly infectious omicron variant which is already swamping much of the global economy spreads across Asia, especially China, at which point disruption to manufacturing will be inevitable.
“Temporary, one would hope, but hugely disruptive all the same” in the next few months, they wrote in a research note this week first noted by Bloomberg.
This is why I just bought a small heater, China made, a blender, China made, a toaster, yep China made, and a bunch of other stuff, also all made in china. I also bought a pair of Columbia boots, although they might have been made in Vietnam, not sure. Anyway, you get my point. All the stuff that you "think" you need is likely made overseas, or more likely in China. There is precious little made in the USA any more.

Us businesses are going to start building things here. Settle for less profit and employ American workers

It's not that US. Manufacturers are too greedy or make to much profit.

Manufacturers left the US. Because they where over taxed, over regulated and as employers over mandated payroll liabilities and general liabilities. They can't compete with China who by unfair trade practices could deliver from around the world cheaper than our manufacturers could do it even at COST.

Thanks to our own government.

And FIAT banksters Fed Res bank in cohorts Eye R Service punishing those who succeed independently.

It's just disgusting.

Just add a muse...

In order to get competitive prices and manufacturers to manufacture with less profit in the U.S.....

Remove 99% of all payroll Liabilities. Tort reform. Bring back real money that is backed by real commodities. And lastly cut the federal government by 90%.

That alone would open so many doors to entrepreneurs in the manufacturing/fabrication sectors, the competition would keep profits in check as well as inflation.

Most likely not. Got any idea how much crap you get dealt from the overbearing local, state, and federal govenment micromanaging every aspect of your business through taxes, fines, fees, and permits? I had a piece of foamcore with all the certificates and permits attached titled "free market economy compliance board".

I expect Walmart and other stores to have empty shelves in the very near future. If you need anything; get it NOW. If you procrastinate, like my hubby does; forget it.....you will never ever be able to buy it anywhere. We are all toast. Get your food, other essentials and garden veggie seeds now. Get you booze, get your medicines, etc. now. Or you'll be bartering your ammo to feed your family.

You remember when enron went TU? TWC sent me a letter that they were changing my rate for a term because of the "unprecedented" draw on the unemployment funds of Texas. My rate went from .7% to 7% so I got to work for free. Yeah, business is going to save the day or it's an opportunity for the state to regard you as an ATM machine.

China typically goes on CNY (chinese new year) beginning in January and workers start coming back in February. If the ports are truly shut down nothing finished before CNY is shipping and the delays to ship that will be at least March before they go out.

Oh, right. Mandated Unemployment Insurance. Another mandated liability/fine on employers.

That ought to teach you for being a capitalist/employer.

Sorry to hear it though. Hats off to you.

China is also locking down major cities, as in sealing people's doors again. This means a total collapse in producing stuff, as well as moving it to the ports, and then shipping it . The reason I posted this is IMHO we are looking at LONG TERM DISRUPTION from China, as in another 2 or 3 months.

Now that Trump is gone, corporate greed will rule again. They will just go back to making it in Vietnam or whereever.

The irony of putting all the permit and licenses on a display board titled "free market economy compliance board".

I had product liability but I never played the workers comp game. Many cities required me to have it so I chose not to allow them to buy my products. I had employees of those cities drive over and buy the products I made anyway.

My favorite was the "conflict of interest" questionnaire. Had a couple of cities try that on me, looked up the law and it only applies to a person or entity buying real estate from a city or if you had a specific contract with a city. Since I didn't have either I told them I did not have to fill that out BY LAW. Came back and said their attorney required me to. Told them their lawyer need further training. OK we won't buy from you. OK, so sad. One employee of a city that blackballed me came in months later and wanted to order the custom made item I did for them. Told him, nope, city said they couldn't buy from me anymore. Told him I would make them if they provided me a letter stating they would pay the bill and that I wasn't responsible for filling out said questionnaire. Magically they agreed.

This is why I tapped my savings and stocked up on shoes, socks, and underwear last year. I highly recommend that if you need those items, get what you can now, but inspect it carefully, lest it has been sitting on a container in the heat for awhile.

Silver lining...it gives us a chance to catch up in our ports.
I'd look at it differently. Californiastan is going to lose port business. Many a trainload of containers were trekking South on 287 North of DFW. Now I see trainloads of containers heading North on 287 from DFW. We're going to get caught up on logistics leaving the Politicians Republic out of the loop.

Yep, I once did a job for a state agency and I didn't at the time have any workers comp. They didn't pay me, and even the professional bill collection hawks couldn't get my money.

If the state did pay me they could of been liable by acknowledge I labored for them. Then I could of sued them, or some such nonsense.

Grrr...

Corporate greed ain't all the marbles. The majority problem is your happy sensitive caring local, state, and federal gov't being your mother telling you what toys you can play with and when you may play with them.

Did business with the State all the time and never had an issue with payment. In fact the agency went out of their way to disqualify bidders on contracts for minor things because my products simply never wore out.

If they're show up to work.
I was getting change for the laundry place at the bar next door in a small Montana town. Had a sign on the door that said "closed for lunch". Now this was back in 2017. Owner told me nobody wanted to work as the State of Montana apparently hands out money to low income people like candy. This isn't a new thing, years ago I had people not show up for work and not call only to find out the next day when they showed up late that they were no longer needed.

Probably it usually has a lot to do with state job controllers. Or state lawyers. I've met some idiots and dickheads. Often they can make shit up as well.

CNY Is Feb 1st this year so a lot of the factories will begin shutting down the Tuesday before and you have about 4 weeks when they will not produce anything which usually shows here in late March/ April when those good would have arrived. If something happens during the shut down then we are really looking at shortages. We are so far behind in shipping I am hoping that the ports are still loading during shutdown but I doubt it.

When I was importing the suppliers always told me nothing would be done and shipped after January 1st. I'd plan my orders to go to production after because nobody gave a crap even less before than after. Four weeks is what they told me too but that was always a lie, my experience was 8-10 weeks.

It will not be noticed until the west coast ports catch up with the ships offshore. Businesses may use it as am excuse to raise prices before the shortages though.

Might depend on what you are making and such… not saying your wrong but what I said is accurate for my company. Different factories shut down at different times But we experience a 4 week blackout in production

i do hope many people are wrong here. Because if we don’t regain the ability to make things here, we as a nation are lost. We need to gut many of our regulations and taxes to free up the business environment. We must look to our own resources again. We need to make our country what it once was. An economic powerhouse.
It seems though, that everyone has thrown in the towel. I guess we are lost. Get your Chinese translation apps.
