Boots on the Ground...Aug.18th...Stock up on food before shortages get worse....Easy to do

18:19
I was at WM today getting some more potatoes. A woman dressed like a pentecostal (perfect hair, btw) walked up. She was surprised that there were no larger bags and few smaller bags. I told her it's only going to get worse, and if she needs it, get it now because we are going into a famine. She looked actually scared. I hope she takes my advice. I really do.

This is what the potato section looked like... Well, after I had to crop the crap outta the pic to be able to upload it. What you are looking at is 3 crates of yukon potato 5# bags with about 5 bags per crate, and 1 crate of small sweet potatoes. The crate to the left is empty. Past that is some 1# bags of red and yellow new potatoes. The marble and ping pong ball sized ones. All of the rolling carts are empty.

I sure wish I could store potatoes long-term here in GA as they described doing in Little House.

I wondered why mine kept sprouting / spoiling in my basement, whether I tried packing them in straw or in old shredded newspapers.

Found out that you need temps below 50-degrees for that long-term storage.

In Laura Ingall's Little House where they kept them in the attic through South Dakota winters--it was probably near-freezing--or at best in the 40's.

sigh.

I went to our little bulk food store yesterday and I came out totally shocked that prices rose that much since I was there a month ago. DG in town was the same as it has been little to no food.

Most people are not wanting to believe it.

They can only handle so much.

But its good to passively inject reality into a conversation.

Scripture is the best medicine for seeing whats coming and also comfort.

My grandfather would sprinkle lime on his potatoes in the cellar to slow them down from sprouting.

...that's about what it looked like at my SW lower MI Walmart when I was getting my tire addressed last weekend.

I hate that bin concept; it's a bit too industrial for me. But the bins were half empty and some were empty outright.

It looked the same at our Walmart, yesterday, too, here in NE MS. Not to be outdone, though, I went right back to the canned veggie section, and bought 2 flats of canned diced potatoes, and several packages of instant mashed potatoes. If a potato shortage is coming, I'm not waiting about stocking up.

I don't think that I've ever seen a pentecostal. There are mennonites, here. From what I understand, they are likely of the most liberal minded ones, as the women have the most minimal head coverings. This is one of the most woke, feminist areas in the country, outside of the large cities.

Local chain restaurant here that serves a LOT of potatoes has a sign up on the door that they don't have any and potatoes are off the menu for an undetermined time. The box of baking potatoes we used to get for church suppers was about $23 and is now $50. I did find 5# bags of russets this week for 2.55 so I stocked up.
