Bird Flu (Possible Pandemic), Terrorism, Iran, North Korea... If you didn't prep...

If you didn't prep, What are you waiting for?

I bought a house outside Montreal. Right now, I live in a small town with less than 5000 residents with my 2 kids. My basement is the perfect place for a shelter.

If you ask me why I started this thread, well, I am more concerned about the upcoming pandemic flu (Bird Flu - H5N1). Because I can feel that it's almost there. Especially with the reports coming in that the migratory birds are currently infecting Russia and are knocking on Europe's door. Damn, and it's not even winter yet..

I believe H5N1 will soon find the way to infect humans on a larger scale.. It's already started.. It's just missing a couple of pieces..

Anyway.. I have enough water and food for at least 5 months (Including my 2 kids).

I also bought enough Tamiflu for my family.

I would like to thank TB2K. I hope I'll never have to press the red button and wait. But all the signs are pointing to a red alert in the coming months.. If it's not a horrible pandemic flu like in 1918, it will be something else..

I believe in God, but I also believe in a strong community like TB2K.

I too, have planned to provide for my family in the event the flu rears its ugly head here - I have also shown my son ( and his wife, with my to-be-born-at any moment grandson !!) different ways to reach my farm. I do not want the baby exposed to the public, at all during the coming seasons - may be I will be more relaxed next spring - we'll see how it goes! Hopefully, I will not have to argue with them about taking the baby out in public, but if I do, so be it. Yes, sometimes, us older people really do know more than the younger generation - I just don't want to have to think " I told you so....." (I would never say it - out loud!!)

At what point do you stop going to work and not go shopping anymore?

Are you going to stop when it gets to your town or when the percentage of a certain amount of your town or state gets the Bird flu?

I have enough to last my daughter and I at least 6 months but haven't decided when I should say ok stop college and stay home now until this thing is over. I am just hoping if it comes to that, that it will be during Xmas vacation so she just doesn't start a new semester.

I saw a dead grackle on the side of the road today. It freaked me out since I don't think I have EVER seen a dead bird anywhere before.

I held my breath for about 1/2 mile! ( yes, I know..silly. But it was instinct )

Can you buy Tamiflu over the counter?
You can buy it online without prescription but it is very expensive. Average price I saw was 10 pills for about $114.00.......yes, that's right.

Google "buy tamiflu online" for a search.

That's an excellent question. I think as soon as I get reports of people infected inside my province. You = State.

Before that, I think it's a safe zone. Media will be extremely fast to report cases. Faster than you think. That's why people need to buy food and water now, before the prices go sky high.. Once it's in the news, it's too late.

I you really have to go outside, then you will need N95-N100 Masks. And when you come back home you will need to take a desinfectant shower. (Hot water and Javex). If you don't want to contaminate your kids/wife/husband.. etc..

No. You need a prescription. Or find an overseas pharmacy that will ship Tamiflu without prescription. But like the previous poster mentionned, the prices are extremely high right now.. Around 8-10$/pills.

1 adult = 2 pills a day for at least 8 days. That's 16 pills for one adult. So almost 160$.

And we're not even sure if Tamiflu can really help you, the upcoming pandemic strain might be Tamiflu resistant. Let's pray it's not.

It's better to be safe than sorry.

The other alternartive = Sambucol.

Are you not going to use tap water or it in case the water system goes down due to lack of employees?

If you have a filter for ice and have treated water do you think the water will be safe? I mean think of all the virus flushed down the toilet that is recycled back to the metro water systems or the virus being carried by rodents who craw in it then to other areas.

It makes you want to drink only distilled water with no ice.

Yes, that's a possibility. I'm going to drink tap water as long as I think my town can handle it. When and why is going to be more difficult. But I am sure that they will inform everyone. If not, I'll just stop using it if the news are really bad.

Your friend will be Chlorine (Even pool chlorine). That's how you are going to neutralize bacterias and viruses. Go buy a large bucket of pool chlorine and you will last a long time.
