Water Berkey Water Filters

Do any of you Berkey fans live in New Orleans? My DD and SIL are looking for a reliable filter. The one they were using is costing them a fortune in filters due to the horrible water there. They've been buying their drinking water, but with the current situation and water disappearing off the shelves I'd like to see them have something reliable. She has a bladder condition and absolutely cannot drink the tap water there. Any info you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Not sure what is needing to be filtered out, but would it be possible to set up some version of a pre-filter (less expensive to service) to run the water through before hitting the more expensive filter media, thus extending its service life?

If it is just for flavor issues, I have used the ones in the stores with success. But overall the Berkey is less expensive. And I've noticed a taste difference in my water although it's probably only noticeable because I've filtered for so long.
I have a 3 gallon container right next to it and I try to keep them both full with filtered water. That generally works unless I'm canning. Then I fall back on stored water.
Overall, it will save them money into the future. When I decided I did a cost analysis of Berkey vs easily available store filter. That easily broke the stalemate. Berkey is more expensive upfront but it handles more on all fronts. But until it comes in, they might see if Sam's Club still has the 4 gallon bottles. Last I looked those weren't going as quickly. I just use a small hand pump at the top for those.

That's actually something I hadn't thought of... We get our drinking water (steam distilled) in the 5 gallon jugs and have a cooler/dispenser at home. I wonder if the larger distributors (Absopure,Culligan, etc) are seeing bumps in their demand? We only usually buy cases of bottled water for travel use.

I'm pretty sure the 4 gallon bottles are what they've been using. I'm thinking the Berkey might be the way to go.

I'll run that by them. Thanks

I have several of them put back for emergencies. Took a few emergencies to work out the kinks of using them. I have those fuel hand pumps for them, except these are only ever used for water.
I refill them with filtered water whenever the emergency is over. As long as I can manage to keep the empty containers away from my son.
