MARANTHA!! Even so, come LORD JESUS!!!
My chicks arrived from Murray McMurray today!!

All well and accounted for....hungry and thirsty upon arrival!!

After working in the garden all morning, I went to the Post Office all grungy and sweaty, and in shorts, which I usually never wear in public, because I have MOON GLOW WHITE legs!!! Then I stopped and bought ice.....no one even looked at me funny!! I guess at this point in history most people have seen it all. Even 70 year old, OLD FARTS wear shorts!!

Baby chicks are all tucked away with their heat lamp, food and water.....ready to grow and become SUPER CHICKENS!!

SORRY, I'm a little loopy tonight..... actually this is the happiest I have been in a while.....bug bites and ALL!!

Amazing how fast they grow. Mine are almost 8 weeks old now and are at least 10 times the size that they were as chicks. They are free range during the day and are already all over the woodlot scratching up bugs and flying short jaunts.

I got some chicks from McMurray today also. I had to briefly leave the hospital to fetch them from the post office and take them home.

I got some Bielefelders to add to our flock. What breed did you get?
I have NO IDEA what breeds they are. I always just order the BROWN EGG LAYER ASSORTMENT. I do know there are some Sex Links in there and Australorps, but beyond that I don't know.

I am hoping for some Brahmas, my FAVORITE, and hopefully some Black Jersey Giants, as well as some Bielefelder. Another of my FAVORITES is Speckled Sussex.....oh, and Black Stars!! I really don't much like white chickens......too easy prey for all the different predators!! I have previously free ranged all my chickens, however I am going to HAVE to do something else else, as there are just too many dogs and EVIL PEOPLE running around loose!

Get a good one. One that turns the eggs automatically. We use a brinsea. Don’t go cheap because a lot of them have temp control problems.
We started with one of the cheaper styrofoam ones and lost two batches of eggs because the temps were all over the place.

This year we just used momma hen. Once you get to that point and have a good momma then it becomes very easy. She teaches them what to and not to eat and so on. The best part is that there is no integration issues when you introduce them to the existing flock because they are already part of it.

I have one made by Brinsea.

Their incubators are pricey - but you can’t hardly mess up using one of their incubators. They are that fool proof.

Bielefelders are my favorite chickens but there are so many close seconds. I ordered hatching eggs last year and got started that way. Buffalo gnats hit here a little over a week ago and in one night wiped out almost all my bielefelder hens and pullets. The rest of my motley crew faired much better including my Bielefelder roosters. I have two pullets left to try and recoup. I did have a dozen eggs I put in the incubator but some are a little on the older side. I normally keep a dozen of their fresh eggs in case of something like this but my DIL ran over a few days before it all happened needing fertile eggs for a broody hen that wouldn't give up and I gave her some of my stash.

I got brave and wore shorts to town last year for the first time in years and nobody noticed a thing lol.

I'm so glad you're happy! New chicks can put a smile on your face.
