Oil Are dipstick measurements standardized?

Ok weird question, just curious. Are dipsticks calibrated so that there is a standardized amount of oil indicated between the "low" mark and the "full" mark? For example, if the oil level is right at the "low" (add) mark, does adding 1 quart take the level up to (or about to) the "full" mark? This would mean that if the oil level is half way between the full and add mark, then adding 1/2 quart would take the level up to the full mark. Are dipstick measurements standardized in this way, or are they all different depending on the car maker?

Cars tend to be fairly standard. This is not true across the board. Small engines definitely are not add a quart, some do not hold a quart.

You can experiment on yours and see how it turns out.

Seems to me that the bigger engines 6+ cylin are more accurate that way. Meaning the oil measures at the low line, add a qt and it measures to the top line.
The 4 cyl engines aren't quite the same, esp if they take 4 qts total.

Trial and error is the best way to KNOW. I've seen cars and trucks where the "add" was 500ml, a quart, two quarts or four quarts low. There is no standard but in the US one quart is prevalent.
