I’ve been wondering the same thing.

Haven’t seen Donald Shimoda around on the boards since before the weekend.

Any news you can share, Chuck or Dennis?

I'm gonna call Donald tonight to see about an update on him.... Also Blue.... Just to let ya know you have Satanta's name spelled wrong. I got chewed out once or twice from him for this very thing.... :D Took me forever to get it straight. I remember it now by thinking Sat & Ant with an A for good measure... ;)

More about his handle:

It is his Native American name and is pronounced Suh-ton-ta (if I remember correctly) and I think it means White Bear.

There has been a great deal of confusion about this over the life of the board and more than once he has been wrongfully accused of adopting the name of the Big Bad Dude.

I didn't know that but when I first came he was one of you who welcomed me warmly. :) I do wish him the best and sending good thoughts his way. :)

Hope he is feeling better. :)

Howdy, Folks!

The evening follow up(sorry it wasn't earlier; I was abducted by "Visitors" :p ) :

Spoke with Satanta last night; he called me.

Says he feels better; can sit up for long periods of time now without feeling really thrashed. His family is being very supportive(this is a load off of my mind).

He wanted me to tell y'all that he REALLY appreciates all the love 'n' attention, well wishing, and cool stuff y'all have sent his way.

He's still housebound, and is pretty bored. I was looking forward to reading sompin' from him here on this board(or any board, for that matter) today, as he said he was gonna try to get online.

Unfortunately, it appears he's still having vision troubles. I know it's redundant to tell y'all, but please keep those prayers and positive thoughts coming...

I spoke to his dad extensively over the weekend. It looks like the Whitebear is gonna be in pretty good hands/care for the time being.

The main thing is Sat is real frustrated, and wants to DO stuff. I told him the only thing he needed to worry about right now was getting better, but he wants to get beyond that and be out doing whatever bears do. He's a VERY hard one to convince to sit still and mend. The "git up 'n' at 'em" attitude is a good trait to have, but sometimes it's good to sit and heal up.

Whitebear said to let y'all know what's going on, so I'll get it out now - he's had a very small stroke(I believe Chuck A Night Driver called it a CVA, which I prefer - I never liked the term 'stroke').

Everything works, 'cept the balance is still bad, his vision is messed up, and weirdly he can't put power behind his voice(in person it seems to be okay, but on the phone it doesn't work right - have NO idea why). The voice and the balance should come back with time and therapy(my personal observation - I disagree with his dad and the doctor on this point), but dunno what sort of therapy they can give for vision. Fortunately, I think that since he has SOME vision, it should be correctable with some sort of lens. He was gonna have some kind of surgery recently(cataracts? Dunno) that was gonna greatly improve his vision, and that's still a viable option. Therefore, I think he'll be able to get over the vision challenges, too.

So, pretty bad(no need to sugarcoat it) but better than some of the other alternatives nad sompin' that he can certainly overcome. Let's just call it a "slight" setback. He's young, and I think even with the other stuff he's got many years of good, high quality livin' ahead of him. If we can only convince him to take it easy right now...

- Dennis -

Got the stuff. I asked Sat if he wanted me to forward it to him; he said just bring it down next time I come. I got the feeling he was hoping for a visit soon... ;)

I'll try to go down this weekend for a little while.

+++++++++++++

There it is. Any questions, feel free to contact me(the e-mail link's still good on the old EZBoard).

Donald,

Guess I should have read the boards before I called ya a few minutes ago and left my message. Would have saved myself the long distance call. Please email though. I'd like to talk you anyway.

Re: getting Sat to sit still and recover.... maybe the family could just turn down the thermostat to about 30 degrees. Bears hibernate don't they? ;)

Donald- Thanks for the update. There's a lot of us here that have been praying for a full recovery. Let us know when he's ready for a beer. I have a 6-pack ready to go as soon as its cool for him to be indulging again. ;)

Dennis, thanks for updating us on 'Whitebear'. have him in my thoughts and prayers everyday......maybe a nice big jar of 'honey' would calm him down? [works for 'winnie the poo' bear]

give him my best when you go down.

Thank you, Donald, for updating us!

Those prayers are going out continuously for Satanta’s recovery.

Tell him WE MISS HIM.

I think we should start planning the Welcome Back Party right now. Bet that will be the longest thread in recorded history! :)

Does too have a life!
Thanks so much for the update. I've been stewing about this, especially when the silence got deafening. I'm relieved that his family is being so supportive - that bodes well for a full recovery. Gonna continue the prayers. This ole den just isn't the same without the Satanta's roar.

agree with amazed - the 'deafening' silence was beginning to worry me as well. glad to hear satanta's okay.

thanx very much for the pronunciation - that's bothered me for a while. whenever i tried to say his name it came out either santana or santa anna. nice to know the correct way.

btw, don, you should be getting a package for sat from me anytime - mailed it saturday. hope it helps!

Don,

There is a seminar this next month at Wheaton, IL, called 'reversing diabetes and heart disease with diet and exercise.' It is presented by an organization called "Weimar Institute" which is, I think, located in Kalifornica. They are doing a series of these things around the country, and they have had quite a few very remarkable success stories.

It is a demanding program, which would probably require some significant changes in diet and habits - not easy for any of us. But it does seem to offer some hope for folks dealing with chronic conditions like Sat. Ya might run the idea past him, as there may be one of these things coming to his area. Then again, this might not be the time to load him with another thing to consider.

In any case, I will be glad to see him back posting again, and just added another prayer to the mix.

regards,

Garryowen

Yes, Donald, thanks much for the update. Glad to hear he's feeling some better and is in good hands. We'll continue to hold him up in prayer for a full recovery. The board just isn't the same without him!

My Mother had a serious stroke when my daughter was 3 months old. She refused to stay in the hospital, so my daughter and I moved in to take care of her. She could barely talk, or walk, couldn't use her left arm. No physical therapy, as such, just maintaining at home, and a will to get better. Spent alot of time on the screened in back porch, watching the birds, looking at her flowers, and watching her granddaughter. But she did make a concerted effort to exercise and walk, etc. She had a COMPLETE recovery, and it actually didn't take long either. I don't think we were there over a month.

Keeping Satana in our prayers also for a speedy recovery.

:) Donald, you are a really good friend! I want to applaud you here for your diligence in being there for Satanta and for sharing his needs and progress with us.

I am so glad that our feisty friend is doing well, and continue to pray that he will mend completely. As you and he are well aware by now, he has the affection of many of us on this board, who are rooting for him.

I hope the hospital forwarded to him things that arrived after his sudden release, for my own items could not have gotten to him in time...would have missed by 1-2 days. Do ask him if he's received forwards since going home. I don't suppose it helped that his things were addressed to Satanta WhiteBear, although his room # was on them...and I am SURE he was well-known there...am I right...LOL!!?

The fact that his folks are being very supportive is also an answer to prayer, and I am relieved to learn of that good turn of events.

That was a great idea someone gave: tell him to hibernate awhile! Cute!

Don, how do we keep cards going to Sat at home?
