CHAT any drone operators here?

I recently bought DJI mini3 pro drone.

I chose this mdl because it has a screen on the controller.

I dont own a cell phone.

I researched to see if it (controller) could be hooked up to computer to d/l files.

it can/does.

after 3 days I still cannot get past the sign in page, to activate the drone.

I spent several hrs yesterday getting help from a DJI drone group.

to no avail.

today, I finally made contact with DJI help page via chat.

no luck there either.

apparently, somebody will contact me within 24 hrs.

dropping $1500 for a toy that I cant play with, peeves me.

I understand that I am NOT AT ALL computer literate,

but, I can follow directions.

If ... they are in english, and not dialect.

theres was no 'frustration' icon prefix

Best wishes with the Mini3 Pro. I hope that you're able to resolve the issues quickly once DJI reaches-out. I got a Mini2SE for Xmas and it's a blast.

I thot there was 'help' prefix?

There was. Satanta decided that he didn’t care for that prefix and wanted it changed. He felt “Help” was too “specific” and not inclusive enough. You might PM him and let him know that you are dissatisfied with his position. I made it clear back when he was complaining about it that I disagreed with his position. zeker can I assume this was an on-line purchase?

As a general rule I never buy anything I'm unfamiliar with remotely. If it's a replenishment of a product I'm comfortable with, sure but something I have zero time with, I want to be FTF.

That's good advice, but where zeker lives, I suspect it could be a long drive to find a store that sells drones...

I once bought a $50 drone. I was able to set it up and fly it without issues. I got tired of in in a couple weeks and haven’t flown it since *about 6 years.) So there’s no way I’d buy one for what you paid. Start cheep, play with it, and see if you want to buy an expensive one. A $50 loss is inconsequential, but a $1500 loss would have me screaming.

finally talked to tech support

first.. I told him I couldnt understand his accent, and to speak slowly.

then I told him I didnt own a cell phone.

as he asks me to type something into the controller, I told him I would set the phone down, while I did it.

as I start typing, I hear him going on and on about something.

I pict up the phone and told him not to speak til I was back on the phone.

he couldnt understand why I couldnt type and listen

he figgered I set the cell phone down, and he continued talking.

I was asking what a line was on a 3 line page.

first line.. my service provider

second line.. safety (with some digits )

3rd line.. my pword.

he couldnt explain what the 'safety' line was.

he eventually told me to send him a photo of the page in question (sign in page)

he sent me an email to respond.

the email asked for photo and video.

sent the photo, again telling him I didnt have a cell phone to make video.

havent heard back yet.

altho I never lost my temper on the phone

I was absolutely fuming after I hung up.

been a long time since I have been this upset.

still nothing, but today is still young.

Face it, there are VERY few people these days without a cell phone. I’m not sure why you don’t have one. I know they can be intrusive, but there are ways to mitigate that. My iPhone completely replaces my PC. And still camera. And video camera. And real-time alerts if my accounts get hacked. The list goes on.

got a second hand 1 about a yr ago

for pics and vids.

never tried anything else.

I figgered, since I wont pay for service, cuz I don't text, I would just use it for cam.

a friend stopped over and looked at cell phone, and started d/l stuff and apps

and now apparently, its everything BUT text etc.

who knew I didn't need to sign up with service provider, cuz I have that for my comp?

anyhow, I am reminded of the woods behind my house

a little bit dense.

back to the drone.

I was still at a loss until a buddy came over and tried.

he couldn't get it to connect.

I told him to take it home and try there.

it worked at his place

and does work here now.

I have since been using the drone.

its great, but I see I will need a long learning curve.

took 5 weeks to get to fly it

the slowest speed is FAST .. 22mph.

I will stick to the 25 acre parking lot till I get confident

Look up payload drips for drones. Videos from Ukraine showing hundreds of Russian tanks, APCs and buildings taken out by consumer drones is awesome entertainment.

Yes, cell-phones can still work on your wifi, even if you don't have cell-service.

I use old cell-phones for Amazon Audible and Apple Music: with no cell-service.

Now you have your drone flying... Look at getting your license FAA part 107. There are 'rules' about what/when/where you can fly.. have fun

Using a phone whilst manually occupied does not necessarily require a cell phone. The feature is called “speaker phone.” This is a feature common to many types of telephones.
