The Hammer

Has No Life - Lives on TB
This is an excellent documentary series by National Geographic. The first episode is on youtube, the rest is on Nat Geo or hulu. If you only watch the first episode, it is enough… it’s riveting. Somber. Highly recommend, especially for younger generation (but grown) who may not have all the memories we do. We must never forget.
God bless.
9/11: One Day In America. Episode 1: First response.
1hour, 15 minutes. (First plane hits at about 16 mins in).

I watched some of that yesterday. Very good, and well done.

While I’ve had many, many life changes, the one constant has been waiting for the other shoe to drop.
I’m glad it never has. That by far was the most exciting, yet scary day in my life. I can’t imagine living in a country that goes through this everyday single day.
Same here.

I've never watched any of the documentaries or anything about it after the fact.

Besides reading the tin foil type stuff later on.

We are on vacation and had a moment of silent on the ship. I tried reading the old thread but couldn’t get though even the first couple with out tearing up.

And many many many of the original posts to that thread are missing; for example, the thread went from the towers being hit to (in post 48) "Both towers collapsed, Pentagon still on fire"---but no posts about the initial plane / whatever hitting the Pentagon. Hardly any pictures or videos--and I remembered the initial thread could barely load on my old dial-up that day due to the many pictures & videos. I guess it had to be cleaned up or maybe things were lost in new server incarnations--but I sure wish we could see the original threads from that day!

I saved a LOT on floppy discs that I downloaded from TB2K that day--I'll have to dig up my old floppy-disc player that I plug in to the computer and see if I can still open those files.....
It was a plane! That hit the pentagon. Not a missile, not a RC plane-it was a Boeing 757 .

And It hit E ring off 110 with the throttles firewalled. Imagine being 100 feet from a jet engine at full throttle and then literally hearing the gates of Hell open with the impact.

I’ll describe the smell it created. Adds to the “flavor” for conspiracy theorists, if you will. It was a heavy odor of kerosene mixed with the smell of powdered concrete (blow your nose a week after and your. Snot came out grey). To finish out the smell, think of steaks, a LOT of them, being burnt on a grill. That was the bodies on the plane and in the building burning.
I’ve smelt that smell today as I usually do around this time of year. It never leaves you.

When they were found and pulled out; the adults had shrunk to newborn baby size. Completely burned, all fat in their bodies simply melted away. The only way to ID them was dna and dental of records. There are still to this day fragments of those bodies being held at a very local military base because they’re too charred to identify.

I know there are people that think otherwise and offer all kinds of cockamamie BS conspiracy theories-the hit on the pentagon was a plane. This isn’t directed towards you, Countrymouse. Just want to try and nip the conspiracy folks in the bud.

I remember calling in sick for work that day and watching essentially the whole event transpire LIVE on cable news. I'll never forget it. The missus was a teachers assistant at that time. She called a couple hours afterward saying how the school where she worked at was going to dismiss at noon. I remember also (from living in near Chicago Midway airport) how quiet the skies were for days afterward.

I also had some pretty revealing political moments shortly after that event...when some "friends" of mine essentially displayed their liberal stripes and ceased to be my "friends". I also remember some time afterward, being incensed after hearing on talk radio, the opinions of some other America haters, saying that we "all just need to calm down".

It's sad really...for an extreme LITTLE bit of time the events of 9/11 actually united this country...in fact, it MAY have been the last time this country WAS united in quite some time.
I had a post surgical appointment that day at the University of Chicago. I cancelled and stayed home also. The most surreal thing in the world was the quiet skies that day and into the night except that nigh when the F16 were in the air which made it even more surreal. I lived where they rounded before heading back over the city.

To add to the insult of the day, the Congress passed the Patriot Act. (I think that is the one). I told DH that it would come back to bite us in the butt.

I will never forget. I will never forgive them. Not only did too many die on September 11th, 2001, but in the years that followed, too many more died in battle, or came home wounded mentally and physically.

I made a whole CD on that day as well
Maybe we can share files on it somehow--I'm not tech-savvy but Timothy can coach me on using One-Drive, which I think is how he said he shares files. I think another way to do it is upload to You Tube but make private and then designated persons the link.

Thank you for sharing your very painful eye-witness testimony, Alfa-Man.

I know many TB2K members argued (but in a good-natured way) back and forth here on Main for days--weeks---after 9/11 as to whether it was a plane or a missile that hit the Pentagon--among many other arguments. It's good to have an eyewitness testimony. I remember seeing only ONE video that the parking-lot security camera had caught--and even slowing it down to frame-by-frame that thing was going by SO fast you really couldn't make it out.

I kind of miss all the (many) old threads we had about it, where we good-naturedly argued it out back and forth, and all the HUNDREDS of videos we shared. I guess they were dropped because the links are no longer good. Sure do wish I could find some of the original old threads in their orignal condition (with all posts, and with videos / pics etc.).

I do know that once it happened, since I was already logged in--on DIAL-UP--on Timebomb--I knew better than to close or refresh my screen because I'd get kicked out and have NO hope of logging back in. Dennis is right -- the site was totally inundated that day and for several days thereafter.

The links are easy enough to edit

And I have asked our admin to restore the old site to working order. The old database would have to be reloaded under a different DB name, and the config files adjusted to read it.

There were actually a few cameras that taped the crash at the pentagon. One was on top of the Sheraton hotel up the hill from Columbia pike. Right beside Henderson hall marine base if you’re familiar with the area.
The second cameras, and probably the best views of the hit were from the navy shopette which was down the hill from where the Air Force 9/11 memorial is today. The shopette was built pre 9/11, run by a lady I knew from her days working at the NNMC Bethesda exchange.
She retired about 2-3months after 9/11. The shopette was closed-and bulldozed to the ground about 8 months after 9/11. That’s one action I would consider as a conspiracy-the place made money hand over fist (22,000 employees across the street and nothing else around). It was odd closing that shopette.
