For that much money I could get a week's worth of groceries. From the looks of it, this is ONE MEAL for a PARTY.

I am so glad all the working folk of this nation could pay for this Bar-B-Q.

I made the mistake of going into the food side of Wally World on the first of the month not to long ago.

I left out of there on more pissed off SOB. I could not believe the stuff they can get.

And to top it all off most of them were to damned ignorant to know how to swipe the card so it made for a long wait.

These are the Gibsemedats that will make TEOTWAWKI a living hell.

P.S. I will also note there was white Gibsmedats too. So yea I am cussing all of them.

Yeah, but it's DIET Mt Dew - you're seeing self control at work there. Better now? :)

In that it will kill them faster, sure. 120 cans of hurry up and die.

On this^^^ so much. Sooo, sooo much. I once worked in a gas station. Back then, you saw food stamp cards on occasion, not like you do now. All the time, they had no idea what they could or could not get.

I was constantly refusing gum, liquor, gas, candy, cake/pie/cookies, ready made meals, and clothing/toys/non food items.

The best part was that they would show up with kids and friends who were obviously not family members and they would scour the store picking up whatever their little hearts desired. They would get so angry and start yelling as you separated items they couldn't have. More than once, I had to tell them to calm down or the purchase would be entirely refused. I can't imagine what cashiers have to put up with now. How many scared managers will not enforce the "right to serve" and "trespassing" laws now just to avoid a scene?

Nice, The tax payers even paid the deposit on the cans. I'm sure that will be turned into cash in a couple days.

I don't know...looks fake to me.

The D in "DEBT" and the first S in "STAMPS" look like they were penned in with the same pen used to circle that line. Also, do food stamp cards have that long of an "account number" that shows only the last four digits?(similar to a credit card) And do they need an "approval code"? I'm just asking, I don't know. Also, I didn't think soda was allowed. Certainly the deposit can't be right, can it? (can it?)

I read or heard on Fox News ages ago that the person who left that receipt was caught.

I don't know where I heard this but I got it in my head that the items were purchased for resale.

And then I have heard them say get this, the food stamps aren't enough because we run out and we go hungry then last week to 2 weeks before it renews.
Just mind boggling.

Yes. EBT cards (Electronic Benefits Card) are used just like debit cards or credit cards. They are loaded on the first of the month with the benefits. They are then swiped at the cash register and the transaction processed just like a debit card.

Whats the problem, didn't Michelle Obama say she was going to teach them how to shop, sounds like this one was in the advanced class :spns:

$141 would be about three or four weeks worth of shopping for our family

Wish I could find Lobster that cheap, on a side note I also heard some states allowed them to be used in casinos.

You do realize why this is being done, right? They are being denied virtually nothing that their little hearts desire, it's all FREE!!!!! Just go get it!!!

Now think about that for a moment...when the cards no longer work, where are they going to go get stuff for FREEEEEEE? The communists in office are purposely creating these potentially violent monsters to do the work of many armies for them once the button is pushed. And at that point they will be hungry, desperate, uber-violent monsters who are used to getting what they want, when they want it for merely showing up.

Boy howdy.

This is in my backyard almost. Pretty disgusting and infuriating but apparently this is an older story and the guy got caught.

Analysis: The management of Angeli's Country Market in Menominee, Michigan has confirmed the authenticity of a customer receipt showing that $141.78 worth of lobster, porterhouse steak, and Diet Mountain Dew were purchased by an individual using a Bridge Card (the electronic benefits card issued to food stamp recipients in Michigan) on February 8, 2011.

Since Michigan law defines "eligible food" for the government assistance program as "Any food or food product intended for human consumption except alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and foods prepared for immediate consumption," the purchase itself was not illegal. But because steak and lobster are generally regarded as luxury foods, the transaction has been condemned in some quarters as an instance of welfare abuse.

Indeed, it's such a stereotypical example of welfare abuse — "Everyone knows of someone (or knows someone who knows someone) who was in line behind a welfare person using food stamps, and observed him or her purchasing frozen dinners or steaks or lobster or some such," complained author Michael L. Murray in 1997 — that skeptics initially wondered if the Menominee incident actually took place.

Items were illegally purchased for resale

On the face of it, the case does seem too flagrant and over-the-top to be true — and now we know why. According to the Menominee County Sheriff's Department, local and state investigators have discovered that the reason the cardholder bought such large quantities of lobster, steak, and soda was not to "dine like a king," as some have characterized it, but to resell them for profit. And that is illegal.

The accused, one Louis Cuff, has been charged with welfare fraud and faces up to five years in prison if convicted.

Yet, I myself have seen [like most of you] the stuff that is purchased with food stamps. I almost never eat that good. I purchase some steak several times a year as a treat but have never purchased lobster, expensive cheeses and all that goes with it. I'm sure that plenty of folk on food stamps spend their benefits wisely but when you see what some of these people buy and then they load them up into a vehicle that is a lot newer than the one your driving you have to turn your head in disgust.

Ok, I'm really wondering if the receipt is real for two reasons. Most receipts from EBT transactions list the amount used and the remaining balance. That's not on there. (It may just be my state that does this but I don't know folks in other states on EBT so I can't ask.)
Two, the receipts don't list the EBT acct. number. Just EBT.

Now that's not to say that EBT doesn't get misused but I think I'd have to call foul on this particular receipt.

It's legit. It happened up here by me and they tracked the guy down and charged him.

Michigan man charged for welfare fraud
Food stamps to buy, then sell lobster and steak

MENOMINEE, Mich. - Louis Cuff, 33, has been charged with welfare fraud for misusing hundreds of dollars of state-issued food stamps.

Cuff was arrested Wednesday but has been released on a $5,000 signature bond.

Authorities say Cuff used a Michigan-issued food stamp card to buy and then sell food items for about 50 cents-on-the-dollar.

One of the receipts from February includes six lobster tails, two porterhouse steaks and soda, totaling $141.78.

The Menominee County Sheriff's Department says anonymous tips led to a month-long joint investigation with the Michigan Department of Human Services.

While the law allows the purchase of any food item with food stamps, authorities say it is the fact they were sold that is illegal.

"Wisconsin and Michigan are both going through some tough economic time," said Lt. Greg Nast with the Menominee County Sheriff's Department. "I'm sure that's what brought this to somebody's attention. Initially people made it about the lobster and the steaks, which is not what it's about, legally."

Nast says he was told someone found the receipt near the grocery store.

Authorities say Cuff admitted to selling items purchased with food stamps on three occasions.

FOX 11 spoke to Cuff at his home, who declined comment. If convicted, he faces up to a five year prison sentence.

Nast says they are still considering charges for the three or four people they believe bought the food from Cuff.

Well he deserves what he gets for committing fraud.

Geez, that type of purchase just makes no sense at all. But then most crime doesn't make sense.
