Planting A Twist On Germinating Seed In Sand

Has No Life - Lives on TB
I have watched several videos about germinating seeds in wet sand and I tried it and it worked well, especially for very small seeds. I messed it up though because I didn't have my grow lights set up and everything got leggy quickly.

What I intend to do when it warms up enough is to start some lettuce seeds in containers on the patio. I'm going to get my planters ready as usual but then put a thin layer of wet sand over the top and start my seeds in it and not have to worry about transplanting.

I'll keep the tender sprouts protected with shade cloth. Opinions and suggestions are welcomed please.
