Own both. Both have over 100k on them. Both 6bangers- Jeep inline 6, Blazer three on each side [?].

Jeep is auto. Blaxer is standard.

Blazer has a fuel injected carb, Jeep ss fuel injected.

Can either of these be set up so they will run after and EMP?

Both engines are strong w/ good compression. The Jeep is nicer as far as looks and emenities but I can live without either. I don't even have any mirrors.

Since I just today changed a thermostat on a 1989 Cherokee with the 4.0L inline six, I am pretty sure your jeep still has a distributor. It should be possible to fit an older type distributor with no electronics. I would expect the S-10 to also have a distributor that can be changed to an older type.

Throttle Body Injected rigs would be easier to change to carburetion, as opposed to Tuned Port Injection. That might favor the S-10, though I don't know enough about the Jeep to tell you if that "fuel injection" is TBI or Tuned Port.

Talk to a Mechanic about swapping either of them to carburetor and old points & condenser ignition. Ask about the rig functioning without anything electronic. In general, "older is better."

Good Luck.

I think the Blazer, too. You need to know what engine displacement is. The earlier ones had a 2.8L, latter ones a 4.3L. The 4.3L is essentially a 350 V-8 with two cylinders missing. So I think a points distributor will work. I don't think there was a carbureted version-but I could be wrong. A speed-parts company like Weiand or Edelbrock might make a carburetor intake manifold.

You know, on second thought, a carburetor MAY work on a TBI manifold. The Jeep transmission probably has electric lockup on the torque converter, and overdrive.

Well the Blazer has a carb...my bro says the fuel is injected into the card somehow that it not really 'fuel injected'.

Everything I looked at shows your Blazer has the 2.8L engine and throttle-body injection-it does kinda look like a carburetor compared to the TBI or DI systems.1986 S-10 Blazer parts list 1986 S-10 Blazer fuel economy (4x4, 2.8L V-6)

That's not as desireable an engine, but it goes back to the early 80s. There probably is a carbureted version. And GM is pretty good about product commonality. You probably can still do it with older parts. Certainly, with aftermarket parts.

Hmmmm???????

As I understand Throttle Body Injection, it's a pair of nozzles in a "body" that has a throttle to control air and resembles a 2bbl carburetor. It wouldn't surprise me to learn the thottle bodies had bases the same size and shape as the carburetors that preceded them. No reason to retool the plant making intake manifolds, if you don't have to.

Has anyone here actually swapped between carburetor and TBI on the same intake manifold?

Father in law has an '86 s10 blazer with 4.3--dont knwo if it is the original motor but it runs pretty stong for a six banger.

Can't throttle body be kept ----i dont think it is really computer controlled, and even if it is it should be primitive enough you could likely find a mechanical work around---??

rryan --who never wants to work on another damn carb again after fixing a carter thermoquad plastic body POS recently

I'm trying to restabilize some finances before I can start putting money into either. Need to have some minor work done to the Jeep then I can go out and start pulling apart the Blaxer.

Gonna need to pull the carb/throttle body to revuild so I'll find out. I'm thinking any compiter that might have been in there is long since toast-it's missing most of it's EGV 's and such. Down to a basic engine.

Also trying to decide it I want to cut the roof off from the windscreen back and put in a rollbar or leave it for some protection from whatever.
