Bush showed some surprising strength in New Jersey, probably due to 9/11. However, most people would have been quite surprised if Bush actually managed to win New Jersey. It went strongly for Gore in 2000, and is historically a Dem stronghold.

Terrorism sure shifted the percentages in NewJersey dramatically toward Bush as compared to the 2000 election, so you are wrong about that. In the battleground states where things are very close, if the same thing happens, Kerry is toast.
