Neither here nor there.
Of course. Unless there are extenuating circumstances....

Wonders if she was driving a second generation equinox, which will soon be under recall for an issue with the cruise control.

Recently there were a couple of incidents where the driver tried to disengage the cruise control by tapping the brake pedal, instead of slowing down the cars sped up. Drivers had to disengage it using the steering wheel control button. I learned about this in the 2nd Gen Equinox group, the CC on my Nox is a little on the squirrely side so I refuse to use it.

I'm pretty sure she was driving a fairly new Mercedes. To your earlier point, I'd agree. The only exception I can see would be some sort of medical emergency like a seizure or heart attack or a malfunction with her car. I'm still curious about someone reporting she had her cell phone out the window. If true, why?

It just goes to show how things can change in a fleeting second and every minute we have here is precious. May God comfort those involved and their loved ones.

Horrific moment LA driver speeds through red light and slams into five cars
Harriet Alexander

8-10 minutes

This is the horrific moment a Los Angeles driver speeds through a red light before slamming into five cars at an intersection, killing six, including an infant and a pregnant woman.

The black Mercedes races past a gas station then smashes into the side of a traffic jam, causing a flaming inferno in the Windsor Hills district. It sends the vehicles screeching across the street before finally coming to a stop in a mangled wreck just feet away from rows of highly flammable pumps.

The gut-wrenching pile up, between South La Brea Avenue and Slauson Avenue, killed the pregnant woman, her unborn child and the three-year-old.
Meanwhile, seven people have been left fighting for their lives with horrendous injuries following the devastating smash at 1:40 p.m.
Moment car BURSTS into flames after colliding at LA intersection

Graphic shows the direction the SUV was going in along South La Brea Avenue when it ran the red light and caused the horrendous crash
The shocking footage, taken from a gas station overlooking the scene, starts as the Mercedes coupe races past the pumps at blistering pace.

Thanks, McGuyver.

No joke about that "Blistering pace"---the fool MUST have been going at least 70-80 miles an hour -- she FLIES past the stopped cars (at the red light) and without a pause just SLAMS into the cars traveling horizontally past in front of her.

Probably never looked up from her cell phone.

jim stone seems to think it was a remote control takeover of the car.

He thought she was waving her hand for cars to get out of the way, but who knows.

Hard to tell when they are just a blur.

Will be interesting to hear her explanation.

I would have gone to see what I could to do help, if nothing more than comfort someone. Iv'e done it before and I'll do it again. For the record, I'm a CA resident. I know we are not all liberal, gay, freaks, whatever. But I do live in the LA/OC area and I know how self centered people here can be. Can you say the same or did you just wake up in a bad mood today? Maybe you're just like that. :shr: Are you implying that since you don't have fire defeating skills, you'd have just driven off? Not all the vehicles involved were on fire. Have some compassion for your fellow man. You don't have to be and EMT to see if there is something you can do.
"In typical SoCal fashion, no one gets out of their vehicle to render aid. Instead, they are likely irritated at the inconvenience of having to drive around the cars and debris. SMH In the videos, I see one person at the gas station running towards the vehicles."

As I said the video was incomplete, so neither you nor I know who or how many went to render aid. It sounded like you woke up in a bad mood, maybe you're just like that? :shr:

In all the first aid classes I have taken they stress to not become a new victim. Assess the scene. The helpers are the ones who turned the emergency gas shut off, who used hand held fire extinguishers and rendered what aid they could. There are self centered folks everywhere and folks who help when they can.

I would imagine that the people right there when it happened were probably in absolute shock. That was absolutely INSANE!! Not to mention the explosion and intense fire.....I doubt there was any chance of saving anyone engulfed in the fireball, if they were even still alive after that horrendous impact. That was practically nuclear!

BTW....how many folks here have a fire extinguisher readily available in your vehicles? AND.....even with an auto extinguisher I don't think you could have put out that inferno quick enough to save anyone.

Who ever has the video from the accident should be able to slow it down frame by frame and see what really happened.

WATCH: Horror 100 MPH Crash in L.A. Kills Six, Including Pregnant Woman, Child
Joel B. Pollak

2 minutes

A horrific, fiery crash in Los Angeles killed six people, including a pregnant woman and her infant child, on Thursday after a car traveling 100 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone barreled into cross traffic at the busy intersection of La Brea and Slauson.
Local news station KTLA-5 reported:
Investigators believe the female driver of a Mercedes was traveling at more than 100 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone when she plowed into cars at the intersection of South La Brea and Slauson avenues around 1:40 p.m., killing six people and injuring eight others.
Among those killed: a pregnant woman, her unborn child, and her infant.
California Highway Patrol said the driver, who survived, is facing multiple charges.
Others reacted to the crash on social media. One woman said it happened in front of her, and that the Mercedes was moving so fast that the accident looked like an explosion rather than a collision:
The intersection is located in Windsor Hills, which is one of the wealthiest black communities in the U.S. and the largest black community in L.A.

And it was a drunk.

Pregnant mother, 23, and baby boy killed along with four others in fiery crash at LA intersection

This is the first picture of a pregnant woman and her baby boy who were killed along with four others in a fiery crash at an intersection after a 'drunk' speeding driver slammed into five cars.
Pregnant Asherey Ryan, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene alongside her one-year-old child Alonzo Luchiano Quintero and her unborn baby boy after Nicole L. Linton, 37, rammed her car through a red light at 80mph in Windsor Hills, Los Angeles.

The driver, Nicole L. Linton, was arrested and for vehicular manslaughter - and is expected to be formally charged by Los Angeles County district attorney on Monday, according to the LA Times.
She is a nurse from Texas, who was working in the LA area. She is co-operating with investigators checking her bloodwork to see if she was under the influence when the fatal collision took place.
Linton will be booked after she's released from hospital.

Vehicles were sent screeching across the street, bursting into flames, before finally coming to a stop in a mangled wreck just feet away from rows of highly flammable pumps.
A woman has claimed that speeding driver Linton, who was her friend, was 'drunk' and 'fighting with her boyfriend' before she got in her car and smashed into a traffic jam.
The gut-wrenching fatal pile up happened between South La Brea Avenue and Slauson Avenue on Thursday afternoon.

Skid marks are seen on the ground at the intersection as investigators on Thursday evening tried to work out what had happened

Eight people have been left fighting for their lives with horrendous injuries following the devastating smash at 1:40 p.m. Of those injured, six were teens and one suffered major injuries. The driver is one of those with injuries in hospital.
LA County Medical Examiner-Coroner confirmed and listed Asherey Ryan's death, along with unborn 'Baby Boy Ryan.'
Tributes have poured in for Asherey, who is believed to have been six months pregnant, and her child after the devastating collision.

Alonzo's father Luis Fernando Quintero wrote online: 'I don’t have any words rn [right now] I’m too much in pain because this is something I never expected no one did I’m going to miss you both and I didn’t get to say goodbye or make up for time lost with you Alonzo my heart is aching may y’all rest in piece god has gained two amazing angels.'
Witness Veronica Esquival said that she was pumping gas when debris suddenly started flying through the air during the horrific smash - caused by the female driver, who was alone in the car.

Witness Veronica Esquival said that the baby landed at her feet after the deadly smash. She was pumping gas at the station when the tragedy happened
She said that a baby tragically landed on the floor in the middle of the gas station before panicked workers tried to resuscitate the child.

She said: 'I was about to pump gas and all of a sudden, I hear all of the noises from all of the collisions, and then the fire explosion and I saw things, metal and things flying in the air. So, I just covered myself behind the pump.
'All of the sudden, a baby literally flew from the middle of the intersection to the middle of the gas station and landed right on the floor in front of me.

'One of the workers came and saw me with the baby and took the baby out of my hands. Somebody tried to resuscitate the baby, but the baby was gone.'
One woman, who claims to be a friend of the Mercedes driver, said she believed she had been drinking after having an argument with her boyfriend before the deadly crash.
Linton was alone in the car, officials confirmed.

She told KTLA: 'She was drinking and she was not aware that it was a red light because she shot straight through.'
Another heartbroken witness Alphonso Word, who was just a few cars away from the intersection when the tragedy struck, said that the crash sounded 'like a bomb.'

He said that the child was 'ejected from the street' as was the the pregnant mother, who 'landed over to the side.'
Devastating images show vehicles left burnt out after firefighters doused the huge flames caused by the crash - after an inferno made it look like 'the whole intersection was on fire.'

The doomed vehicle fails to break as it bears down on the traffic flowing both ways across the packed intersection.
It slams into the first car, which immediately bursts into a sickening fireball before plowing through several others that spin from the huge impact. The crash sends them all hurtling towards another gas station across the intersection before finally coming to a stop in a crumpled mess.
The pile up came to a stop just before the second gas station over the road, which is considered an architectural icon.
Fiery high-speed crash leaves at least six dead in Los Angeles

Social media images showed the battered vehicles left without wheels and roofs following the brutal impact
Images show mangled, burnt out vehicles splattered across the street in what was described by California Highway Patrol as looking 'like a war zone.'

Eight of the nine injured were sent to area hospitals and six of the nine are children and teens. The driver of the Mercedes is believed to be one of the people sent to the hospital with major injuries.
Debra Jackson, who was filling her car with gas, told CBSLA: 'All of a sudden, I heard a big explosion and flames went over my whole car. I though my car was on fire.'

California Highway Patrol spokesman Franco Pepi said that 'at least six or seven' vehicles were involved - and three became engulfed in flames. He also confirmed that the driver was a 37-year-old woman.
He added: 'Just unknown reasons for the high speed at this time … Everyone needs to drive with more due regard because a lot of collisions happen, and this just happens to be at the top of the list of how bad they can get.'

Not sure why we're compounding the horror and tragedy of the senseless event of those folks by snapping at one another, but yeah, of course when you roll up on car, truck, plane, murder scenes whatever, most of us stop and render aid, and even when all we can do is comfort the dying or take charge of a chaotic scene in the first moments after, it still matters...or so I tell myself.

Like everyone else, I am still haunted by some of the sounds, sights, and smells, and the heart rending wish that there had been better outcomes, but I am confident it would be far worse burden had I not tried.

..and of course, we all have polished our medical assist skills, or are actually medically certified, have a special set of tools in the trunk, and review it all periodically..right?

Could be a vaxxident. I was just today talking to the guys in my crew about how crazy it's getting on the roads these days. I'm regularly dodging accidents from people doing insane things behind the wheel. Some mistakes are understandable. Like making a lane change without knowing that someone was in the other lane but in that spot not quite easily seen in your mirrors. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm seeing a strange increase in people doing batshit crazy stuff that force you to do a batman manuever and holler WTF?

More and more people are doing things that defy logic.

Like, making turns right in front of oncoming traffic, missing other cars by milliseconds.

I saw a pretty bad accident occur in front of me at an intersection. A smaller car taking a left in front of a big diesel truck towing a skid steer. I literally saw the impact. I pulled over to the side and waited for the police to report. I was shaking like a leaf after seeing that.

I agree that we shouldn’t be jumping on each other, but we also shouldn’t be jumping to conclusions either. I have not read anything official about this woman texting at the time of the crash, yet it has been charged right here by at least one member. There are many possible reasons for the crash and we need to wait for the facts to be uncovered before we assign blame, convict and sentence anyone.

One more thing … that unborn baby needs to be counted in the total dead. It was a child!

The average IQ in the U.S. is declining at a rate of at least 2 points every decade. Throw in lower median English capability, and ignoring road signs/laws is going to increase, often with extreme negative consequences.

Driver Arrested in Deadly Windsor Hills Crash
37-year-old woman that CHP officers suspect caused the wreck Thursday will be booked after she's released from a hospital.

CHP officers arrested a woman Friday who they say caused a fiery multi-car crash in Windsor Hills that killed 6 people, including a baby and a pregnant woman.

Nicole L. Linton, identified by multiple law enforcement sources as a nurse from Texas, will be booked after she's released from a hospital where she's being treated for injuries she sustained in the wreck.

Gas Station Clients Witness Deadly Crash in Windsor Hills
Clients at a Windsor Hills gas station watched in horror as a fiery crash left six people dead. Lauren Coronado reports for the NBC4 News at 11 p.m. on Aug. 4, 2022.
The arrest was also confirmed by members of Linton's family.

Public records in Texas show someone with the same name as a registered nurse with a current, valid license.

Kaiser Permanente released the following statement regarding the crash:

"Everyone at Kaiser Permanente is deeply saddened by Thursday’s horrific crash. It’s impossible to imagine the pain those involved are experiencing. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy. At this time, we are not able to comment on what has been reported as a criminal investigation. Any further questions about should be forwarded to law enforcement authorities."

The high speed crash happened around 2 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Slauson and La Brea Avenues and was captured by a security camera at a gas station nearby.

As of Friday morning the CHP said 6 people died in the crash and at least 8 others were injured.

That makes no sense at all?

I still wonder if the driver was suicidal? That may explain some things.

One reason I say that is because someone who is seriously liquored up tends to drive slow, with a few exceptions.
Freshly raging, angry drunk drivers are often pedal to the floor.
But she seemed to be holding her cell out and up..or was she tossing it when she realized she was careening into her future victims?

Her cell phone may have survived the accident..there could be some evidence there.. But maybe other ways to extract cellular info than access to a specific device?
