Rider of the storm!
Does anyone here have any experience with these engines?

I have a 91 dual throttle body engine in an s10 and I am haveing power problems.

I have replaced both injectors ($150)
Plugs and wires ($40)

At first the engine missed and ran rough at idle. after replacement of these items it idled smoothly but misses terribly during acceleration, so badly infact that I suspect it is only firing on 3 or 4 cylinders.

It has power at speed and runs fairly smooth but as soon as you press the accelerator it startes missing terribly....

I am at a loss for a cure now.

I have been told that the fuel pump can cause these maladies but am skeptical as to whether or not this could be true.

Any advise out there?

How many miles on the vehicle?

Have you changed ALL the fuel filters?

How about any fuel lines that are rubber, have they been inspected (rubber don't last and bits and pieces can clog the filters)?

Timing chain (in the engine), is it flexing? Or worn out (miles)?

Vacuum leak? Check hoses and gaskets for leaks and cracks.

This is just a start.

Dollars to donuts it is your EGR valve. They coke up and stick, usually slightly open.

The dealer will fix it for you for 200 to 400 bucks, or you can remove it, clean it, and reinstall in less than an hour. Also, use a small brush (45 caliber works well) and brush the loose carbon from around the port to the EGR valve, then briefly run the engine with the EGR valve off to blow the loose carbon out. Reinstall, and you are done.

Has your oil filter adapter started leaking yet?
