Owner needed a working engine even if it only works temporarily:
In Long Beach, CA a new survey is required with boat purchase
before you can get a slip in the city of Long Beach
this is even if the boat is in the water
slips are non-transferable
the boat has to move under it's own power

Looked up prices on new Predator engines. Guessing this one is about 13 horse power.

The wife doesn't sound happy.

Fair use.

We paid 1000 dollars for a Catalina 30 Sailboat. Yes I put a Harbor Freight engine in it.

You can't sail into a slip.

There is a reason for this requirement.

Basic liability for a marina owner, keep dumbasses from bouncing into other boats while maneuvering into a slip...they need some kind of internal power.
Well, you can, but most people can't. ;)

And yes, I know most marinas don't allow it because people don't bother to learn and take care of business.

Sailboats are like horses. Make sure you have lots of money for what I promise you will be coming in expenses over the next few years.
B.O.A.T is an acronym for Break Out Another Thousand! If you can't do the work yourself expense cost go even higher.

As for sailing into a slip? The wind doesn't always blow and sometimes it doesn't blow in the direction needed. Sailboats can't sail up wind. Other times it blows in a direction you don't want to go... hard! If that direction is into: rocks, a reef, a shoal, a jetty, a pier, another boat or some other hazard? With out an engine that can be a problem.

Another problem is many sail boats have heavy metal keels that weigh thousands of pound. The boat, not including the keel, can weight a lot even if it's not made out of steel or wood. Maneuvering that against pressures in tight places is at best an art and at the least a learned skill.

Boats are like horses, they keep eating money whether you are riding them or they are standing in the stall or slip

Pretty much the same for anything powered in any fashion and floats.
Could never afford that addiction - too deep into gunpowder and good tires besides, not much useful water bodies where I come from.

This is why my main boats are two recreational kayaks, a sit-on and a sit-in type, weighing around 38 pounds. They allow me to get out on the river and fish without spending mega bucks to do so.

Soon, I'll be able to get my "lifetime" Iowa fishing license, and then this activity will only cost me the gas to haul the kayak down to the boat launch.

This is the beauty of living in an area with a ton of little in-land lakes. Yes, I miss the ocean, but I don't miss the costs of a larger boat or having to mess around with rebuilt engines that keep failing. It's nice just to toss a little boat in the water and go. I spend more time fishing and less time trying to get ready to go fishing.

Which is what I always thought fishing was about; fish and the catching, cleaning preparing and consumption there of.

Often with a suitable complimentary beverage and suitable side dishes.

Fancy not required; Northern Pike on a shore fire w/ some crispy fried spuds, sauteed carrots, onions & a cold beer.

Look out LaRonge I'm coming home!

It's called a sailboat for a reason.
Don't need no stinking engine.

Learn to sail.
Now I know zip, Nada, bupkiss about sail boats or the engine mentioned but the video was informative if you remember I know less than the sq root of 0000 about this.

It is absolutely amazing what trivia one can learn here and one never knows if or when it might be useful.
