Father Opens Fire After Daughter's Ex-Boyfriend Allegedly Breaks Door

A father in Shelby County, Ohio, shot and killed his daughter’s ex-boyfriend Sunday after he allegedly broke through the family’s front door.

WLIO notes that the incident occurred around 11 a.m.

WKEF reports that the ex-boyfriend, 22-year-old James Douglas Rayl, was allegedly caught on the family’s Ring doorbell system trying to break open the front door.

The father warned Rayl that he had a gun and told him to leave. “Rayl then shouldered the door several times, eventually breaking the door open, and started to enter the residence.”

The father shot three rounds and Rayl struggled to get back out of the house, collapsing by the garage.
A press release from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said Rayl “succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.”

And so, how old was the DAUGHTER, and was this guy's "Ex-" status HER idea or Daddy's???

Either way, it appears to have been a righteous decision, over all.

Did the ex-boyfriend have a weapon/weapons available/on him?
Was the shooter arrested? Charged?
Is there an ongoing investigation?

In Florida once you cross the door jam you are in castle doctrine territory. And he was warned multiple times and it was a clear case of violence in mind. Daughter, regardless of age and relationship, was in the father's home and he was protecting someone in fear of their life.

The DAUGHTER obviously chose a bad boyfriend.

Perhaps she will learn(doubt it), about properly
choosing a potential mate.

Also, why do people attempt to continue a
bad relationship, when one party in the relationship
has ended the relationship. The now deaded
ex-boyfriend, should have realized it was over,
and simply moved on. Water under the bridge.

Please be safe everyone.

Regards to all.

I give up.
One time when I was in my 30's this goofy guy got drunk and busted my heavy wooden downstairs door down. I had already called 911 and the cops came immediately and confronted the idiot. His father the lawyer hauled him off and I presume the idiot paid my landlord to have the door replaced. I wouldn't have shot him, he was just drunk and stupid. LOL No really, I don't know what set him off, but I got him out of my life after that anyway. Jerk. Too bad too. He was fun to be
around when sober. Oh well.

All true in FL but this happened in Ohio; different jurisdiction so could be way different criteria.
I was only asking if LEAs had released any info about those points in a left-handed attempt to show Dad was clearly right.

Sometime I'm a little vague, others, too direct.

Having said that I thought I saw a pic labeled Camera 2 of some tallish masked guy holding a longish item (crow bar?) inside an apparent residence entry way/foyer.

Entirely the wrong look for a reconciliation/make up attempt but perfect if you have evil intent.

Evil intent, meet righteously concerned armed parent inside a place you were not invited to be.
