DIRECTV Announces They Are Cancelling OAN News Because of The Network Political Alignment

January 14, 2022 | Sundance | 270 Comments

The remarkable aspect to this announcement is the openness of DirecTV’s admission.

Following on the heels of the demand from the White House to start blocking content against the interests of the Biden administration, DirecTV the satellite television communication company now part of the AT&T network, has announced their decision to drop the One America News Network (OANN) channel because OAN is perceived to be supportive of Donald Trump.

(Bloomberg) – DirecTV, one of the largest U.S. pay-TV providers, plans to drop One America News Network, dealing a major blow to the conservative channel that’s been criticized for spreading misinformation and had a loyal fan in former President Donald Trump.

The satellite-TV provider has notified OAN’s owner, Herring Networks Inc., that it plans to stop carrying the company’s two channels when their contract expires. Herring Networks also owns AWE, a lifestyle channel that stands for “A Wealth of Entertainment.”

“We informed Herring Networks that, following a routine internal review, we do not plan to enter into a new contract when our current agreement expires,” the company said in an emailed statement to Bloomberg News.

DirecTV’s contract with Herring Networks expires in early April, according to a person familiar with the matter. Herring Networks didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. (read more)

Given the fact that Joe Biden only holds support of somewhere around 30% of the country, this move by AT&T/DirecTV is quite remarkable.

One would think that someone in the corporate boardroom, perhaps someone associated with the best business decision, would give pause to any consideration of kowtowing to the demands of cancel culture.

Alas, it seems that voice was not present, or at least insignificant to the objectives of the corporate decisionmakers.

Any corporation making politics the central point of their business intent is automatically reducing the potential audience by half. There must be a strongly declining business model for the satellite broadcasting industry as a whole in order to make such a decision.

Perhaps the subscription-based entertainment and news alternatives have eroded the baseline for the TV business. I genuinely do not know. However, on its face, this type of a corporate decision seems like financial suicide.

Even DirecTV customers who may not watch OAN, yet retain some reasonable disposition to see a slippery slope as it becomes evident, are likely to view this decision negatively.

Regardless of the internal or background conversation, one thing is certain, DirecTV will lose more customers than it will gain. That is just a predictable outcome whenever you make political affiliation a litmus for a product.

Go Woke – Get Broke” gains yet another victim.

Only worry about what you can control!
In other news: Direct TV stock prices may soon start a free fall as customers line up to leave the subscription based service, customers interviewed stated the reason as “political alignment”. </satire>

I watch OANN 60%+ of the time, the remainder NewsMax. I’ll go the Roku route, if available. Loosing OANN is not acceptable. The effete elites and communist assholes want to continue to mushroom us. They want a civil war at the least, and total destruction of America at their best. Screw ‘em. If they do pull the trigger, it’s to the knife.

For those of us that live in the woods, the streaming services don't work because we don't have unlimited internet to stream from.

As for OAN, its a shame they will not be available. However, I had quit watching even that news channel. I get the headlines on line and as much detail as I'm interested in. We watch older shows reruns and reruns of reruns.

We got rid of DTV years ago. We do have ROKU, & get OAN, Newsmax, and Real Americas Voice.

Highly recommend ROKU. It also has movies

What TPTB haven't figured out yet is that anyone with more than two brain cells connected and operational don't believe a single propaganda point they are pumping out. In fact whatever "THEY" say we can pretty much bet what actually happened is exactly the opposite. Sort of how the Russian people believed the B.S. spouted by the Kremlin back in the days of the U.S.S.R. Nothing but UTTER CRAP!

And anyone that does believe their shiite are utterly BRAIN DEAD......YEP! We ARE in fact actually living in The ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE! GOD help us all!

Why are any of us surprised? This is par for the course. It's a corporate multinational headed by former government bureaucrats.

EDIT: With streaming, their actions against OANN are moot; Where to Watch

That's so true. It has been nothing out here, but Sat. is all that there WAS. Nearest cable was 10 miles away over 40 years ago, and never got any closer.

Coming next week fiber optics will be installed, and was already planning on cutting the sat, on everything.

Bought Directv from Lowe's, had to install it myself. Everything came in a box including instructions on how to align it, with a protractor and compass. Got a 99% signal strength. Been that way for about 35 years. Saying bye, bye. Hope fiber is worth it.

AT&T put in fiber optic a few years ago, but I guess we are too far off the road (440 ft) so its not available to us, plus they have gone up in price. Yet it is cheaper than DTV and hughes net put together.

I don't know how Roku works. We have satellite TV here--no cable. Anyone feel like explaining?

My son had Direct TV when he moved to Cleveland because of where he lived...no cable and this was before the streaming services took off. Then when he moved to Indy, they wouldn't let him out of their contract but instead, offered a fantasical deal. He took it and regretted it because the service was so poor. He's moved into a new house and dumped them after the contract was up. THEY had to go to the Direct TV place (with limited hours because of covid) to return the equipment. Couldn't get there the first month (because they both worked) so they got charged another month for equipment rental.

He now streams and is pretty happy with it.

Threw Direct TV in the dumpster many years ago. Refused to pay them for all their worthless channels and commercials. We just watch movies that we pick up on DVD. Usually on sale stuff that interest us. Our choice our money. Saves a lot on being brain damaged. We don't even own a HD tv which you must have to hook up with Roku. We do have Viasat which is not the cheapest but I have had to video conference with my VA Doc's. It does give us better streaming and we can stream a lot off the internet. Other than that I have no use for Hollywood commies or the commie news media.
