According to a just-received Chinese language text and supported by other sources in China, there has been a presumed laboratory leak of COVID-19 at East China University of Science and Technology on November 12, 2021.

(A cursory translation of the above indicates that the school has been closed due to a new COVID-19 being released and the whole school has to be tested.)

Allegedly, laboratory workers tested positive for COVID-19 after conducting experiments involving the insertion of COVID-19 genetic material into the bacterium E.coli as an expression vector for COVID-19 proteins.

Nothing special. This is how you produce proteins in mass. Take as segment of genetic material, insert it into a bacteria plasmid--like E coli--that is easily cultured into large volumes. The expression vector then produces the desired protein in quantities sufficient for research or mass production and are "harvested" for use. Basically it's how you "ranch" those proteins. If you see the word recombinant it points to that method of production.

It's how you produce thing like mRNA for vaccine, it's how insulin is made, Von willibrand factor for hemophiliacs, medications like Humira, Enbrel, even Crestor for cholesterol control are made that way. Around 600-700 meds on the market since 1980s use that technology.

You don't need to quarantine for CV19. It's not that contagious. It's not that deadly. You don't need to wear a space suit when you encounter it. What's up with this?????????
