We brought home a dripolater coffee maker we found in the back of my in laws cabinet. It makes good coffee. But I am still trying to figure out the grounds to water ratio.

I am still catching up from when we were caring for my mother in law. I have gotten a lot done. The house is starting to look acceptable. It got really bad when we were just in and out.

I hope I can take some bags of top soil to our barn. It is in the shed that we store fire wood in. It has to be moved so we can start another stack. We will be cooler in about 6 days so that will be a good time to work on the wood. We have enough for 2-3 years now. But there is still down wood from the trees we had removed that we have to work up.

We are only seeing spotty shortages at the stores so far and no limits on anything we buy so far. Prices are creeping upwards.

I got in a walk this morning and am working on weatherizing the garage (ongoing project this week) before I have to go to work this afternoon (second job).

Wishing everyone a blessed and productive week!

Getting the chest freezer set up along side the LTS shelving. Will free up room in the other freezer for more commonly-used items. Got a thermometer to go with it so we know if there is a problem...before it is too late.
Picking up some more propane and coffee in the morning...jic ;)

Pulled 30lbs or more of potatoes today, red and white. Lettuce and beets are coming on good.
So many tomatoes! Squash, watermelon, more pumpkins. We have had a spell of warm weather with a lot of rain so stuff is growing again. More beans, carrots. Brussels are full and getting processed.
Started getting some of my books from the house for my bookcases I'm working on.
Really good dinner tonight son in law made.
Got to go help son with the big trash haul this week. Trying to set it up so we all can be there cause it's a load. 9- 55 gallon metal barrels left by former tenant, full of who knows what burnt and unburnt, sitting in rain for months. Plus assorted trash on ground.
Plan is get a U-Haul trailer with all loading dock, use dolly to roll onto trailer, haul around the corner to the dump.
Lord. The young guys will have to do that part.

Thank You, Judy!

We got in home last evening - whew; almost 2400 miles in 6 days wore me out! (And left me about unable to move.)

I sure am glad to be home - and to be home with 6 more days off work is just a bonus! We've rain in the forecast for Monday, Thursday, and Friday; then I'm back to work Saturday evening. I need to get the pole beans I left for seed picked sometime this week when they are dry enough; and plant the garlic soon. I'd like to get the windows washed, but that should probably wait until the corn across the road is harvested; otherwise it would be a wasted effort unless the wind is from the northwest when they pick it.

I went to daughter's to pick up the kittens this morning - she boarded them while we were gone. I ended up coming home with two kittens, one boy, and one dog  By the time I got them home and settled in, the dew was dried up and Hubby was mowing, so the 5 of us headed inside until he was done. Then the grandson wanted to go to the indoor pool - it's open 1-4 for public swim, so we headed up there, and went to the local orchard afterwards. My original plan was to run up there and pick up a half bushel of apples tomorrow morning after I head to work for my weekly Covid test, but since the pool is pretty close to the orchard, we went up this afternoon instead. There were lots of kids there, so I got to sit in the shade and enjoy an apple cider slushie while he ran and played. Hubby had gotten the apple peeler/corer/slicer down for me, so tomorrow after I get back from doing my test, I think I'll clear the island counter and get everything set up for making/canning applesauce. The grandson will stay overnight tonight, so he will have to go to the hospital with me in the morning, but maybe we can make some applesauce after we get home - it's supposed to be a dreary, rainy day tomorrow so that will be something we can do together - and he likes turning the crank on the peeler/corer/slicer so I get some free help

Tuesday's weather is supposed to be sunny and mild - the neighbor lady wants to go to the pool and then on up to the orchard; I'll see if I need to buy more apples while we're there...

Wednesday is supposed to be warm but cloudy, with a chance of showers, so I'll work on outside stuff unless I can't. I want to wrap some apples and put them in crates on the basement stairs - wish I could find my half bushel crates but I think that they are probably in use at daughter's house as 'decor' lol! That, and switching out the boys seasonal clothes will keep me busy if I need to stay inside.

Thursday is supposed to have showers in the morning and evening - I may be able to sneak in making some more applesauce... Unless someone makes me a better offer. I think apples might be my favorite fruit to work with - they don't mind waiting a few days - or more - to be worked up!

Friday is going to be a down-time day - gonna need a bit of time to wrap my head around going back in to work on Saturday night.

I know coupon stuff probably gives a few people headaches and a lot of folks probably roll their eyes, so this post is for the couponers among us

I had stopped at CVS yesterday before I picked up the kittens and grandson to do a couple of deals. I picked up 4 pkg of 4 mega ( ) rolls of Charmin at $5.99 each for a 'Spend $20/Get $5 Extra Care Bucks, and 5 pkg of Hershey snack size candy bars at 5 for $15. I used a $5 off 5 bags coupon from the magic coupon machine for the candy, plus a $5 and $10 Extra Care Bucks I'd gotten for buying something week before last. $24 (tp) + $15 (candy) = $39 - minus $5 (scanner candy Q) + $5 + $10 (ECBs) = $19 + tax out of pocket, and I got a $5 ECB for buying the tp, and another $1 ECB that I have no clue what it was for lol! Daughter thought that was a pretty good deal, so gave me her card and asked me to do the same deal for her if I got a chance, which I did on the way home from the pool/orchard yesterday.

When I scanned her card at the magic machine, it had the $5 off 5 bags of candy coupon, and she'd given me a $10 ECB she'd gotten from buying something. There was also a coupon for $10 off a CVS brand pulse oximeter, so I wandered over that way to see if they had one I might want, but got sidetracked by 2 lonely 6 pks of Ensure and a sign under the shelf that said buy 2/get $5 ECB - in my cart they went since they were Hubby's favorite dark chocolate flavor - one we hadn't found for a while. I did get the 4 pkg of TP and 5 bags of candy, so the deal was Candy $15 + TP $24 = $39 - Daughter's $10 ECB + $5 candy scanner coupon; total $24, got back a $5 ECB on the candy. Which I promptly used paying for the Ensure - $9.99 x 2 = $19.98 - $5 ECB = $15 and change out of pocket and a $5 ECB back to replace her candy one I'd used on the Ensure.

When I take grandson and dog back to their town later today, I'll see if they have any Ensure on the shelf; if so, I'll use my $1 and $5 ECBs from my earlier deal to pay for part of it; and will end up with another $5 ECB.

I'm pretty sure they will have another candy deal next week since Halloween is coming up, so I will save the $5 ECB to use on it.

When I run in to town this afternoon to have my covid test, I'm going to stop by the chain grocery store as they have some decent coupons in their coupon flyer, as well as a couple of things in their ad. I'll be picking up 3 tubs of grated parmesan for $1.99 each, Pop Tarts (Halloween) 3 boxes at $1.69 each, 3 Purex detergent 50 oz at $1.99 each. I'll also snag one of their weekly ads to see if there are any good sales in it.

We don't really have anything planned for this week, except for Cary's doctor appt. on the 14th. Since we will be in big town for that, we'll go ahead and do our Sam's shopping. My list for there is.....lozenges, 2 cases bottled green tea, box of assorted chips, 2 bath towels, 4 bath cloths, large bag of potatoes, a case of bottled water, coffee, and a large package of Kleenex. I might pick up another case or 2 of canned veggies of some sort.

It will be next week, before it's time to do my regular grocery shopping in small town.

We're pretty close to having our lawn and garden care done for the winter. Grass may have to be mowed again once or twice, yet, but it's getting close to being time for our first frost, or turning cold enough to stop the grass from growing. Gardens are already mulched with leaves, since they are falling good, now.

I'm beginning to get the itch to start my fall cleaning indoors, getting ready for winter in here, too. All the windows need to be cleaned, before closing them up. I have mini blinds over all my windows along with curtains. When I close them up, I close the blinds, and close up all the curtains, too. Our old house still has drafty windows, even though, we have installed storm windows to give us added insulation. Closing the blinds and curtains really help.

I've already changed out my closet for the winter, but still have Cary's to do. He handles colder weather better than I do, so I always leave his for last. I'm already wearing long sleeve tops. I need to get out all of our insulated underwear, and get them washed.

not much activity in this thread yet. I think people are putting their prepping information in other threads.

I ordered a 50# bag of dog food from walmart and there was no shipping information, just an offer to remove it from my order. The other items are supposed to be on their way, except that one order of green beans that was delayed and hasn't moved at all. This makes me nervous. I still don't have my rock bottom amount of green beans. Although we have to go to Lowes tomorrow and I'll stop at walmart in that town to pick up a couple of flats of them.

Wednesday is DH's 78th birthday, he wants to go to KFC, he likes their crunchy fried chicken, I prefer the regular.

We picked up another 3 months of coffee today and some over the counter meds. We also got a few canned goods, dry beans, and batteries. We did not find smoked paprika. We may need to order it on line.

Hubby ordered 2 extra little fans that mount at the ceiling and blow warm air from the wood stove down the hall. It helps keep our bedroom warmer.

I threw out all my water glass eggs. Just one crack you can't see and the whole batch is Stinky. But many of the eggs look good that I poured out. The ones that broke looked nice. I think I will just try to keep my chickens laying. My 4 young ones the hen hatched are doing well.

I gave my best friend one of our tubes of ivemectin. She has been sick for over 2 weeks. Her dr gave her an inhaler, antibiotics, and prednisone from a phone consultation. But she was really not improving. Every place they called was out. I told her husband to come get one of ours. She took it and thinks it has helped. In a couple of hours her low grade fever she had run the whole time was back to normal. Her oxygen levels are coming up each day. Her husband took some too since he was feeling like he was coming down with what his wife had. He feels much better too. He is pretty much back to normal. So was it the dr meds or the ivemectin? We don't know. But thank God my friend is getting better.

I have been doing an experiment after something nomifyle mentioned. Judy said she used corn starch in place of deodorant. So I decided to try it. After my shower, I use a cotton ball to swab my arm pits with alcohol. I let them dry then dust with the corn starch. I am more comfortable and believe it or not I smell better. There is very little odor. The alcohol kills bacteria. It is cheap too, so that is another win.

Aldi has seasonal coffee flavors; and the winter ones are starting to show up, so I'm going to stock up on my favorites before they disappear- when I stopped by yesterday on my way home from having my covid test done at work to pick up chicken thighs to cook for the kittens, 2 bags of White Chocolate coffee followed me home. I also hit a sale at a local store that had Folger's half-caff (daughter) coffee so picked up 6 tubs of that for her.

Today's plan is hang out with the neighbor lady when she goes to town to have labs drawn; once that is done, we will go to the pool, then run up to the orchard as she wants to get some apples, then have lunch afterwards. Older grandson asked me to pick him up some cider while we are at the orchard, so I will try to remember to do that. I'm also going to ask her if I can make a quick run in to CVS to check for Ensure in the first town.

The local grocery store has good quality ground beef on sale for $3.69/lb, so I am going to pick up 4# on the way home and will use it to make up meatloaf mix - I noticed some room in the area where it is stacked in the freezer, so time to make more.

I made beef stew for supper last night; it turned out pretty well - I love fall and winter food :) I made a pan of corn bread to go along with it; baked a couple of apples since I was already going to have the oven going. Best part is that there are leftovers for tonight! The store had rump roast on sale for a pretty good price but I was tired by the time I got there, so went with the slightly pricier cubes of beef. I will go in and pick up a roast or two later this week and slice, vac seal, and freeze them for stew beef.

I don't know if they still make that scented bath powder that comes in those little round containers that have a powder puff in them. Remember those? If they do still make them, you can buy one, empty the powder out ( I don't use it on my body), and refill with constarch. Use the puff to powder the cornstarch where ever you want. That's how I do it.

Stocked up on vitamins at Walgreens several bogo and some were buy 1 get half off the next. Dh has to do 50,000 of D3 once a week, the 10,000 are hard to find. Picked up drain cleaner and other things we needed.
Started another Walmart list, this time it's made up of odds and ends I want.
Had our first fire in the firepit, saw a couple of shooting stars. We have light pollution around here so they must have been good size.
Have a good day everyone!

I use a glass cheese shaker for my cornstarch, and shake it out on a wash cloth. I usually keep that wash cloth in a basket in the bathroom.

So we have to go to Lowes for materials for the cabin and I asked DH if I could go to w/m in that town and he said no. No, because I would just buy more food. So I told him I'd give him the money for his birthday chicken and he could buy it himself. Later he told me he was kidding. I want to get more green beans, I've already got mine, and I wanted more for him. LOL

Well, when Cary went to see his Urologist the other day, he had to give a urine sample. It always has to be sent off for analysis. His nurse called late yesterday with the results. Wouldn't ya know it, Cary has another UTI. He is showing no symptoms at all. Thank God it was caught, before he went septic again! So, she called him in a prescription for antibiotics at Walmart.

Now, what did I tell ya'll about Cary doing shopping by himself?! Yeah, he ran to Walmart by himself this morning to pick up his script......

What did he come home with?!!! A large pack of cookies, a large bag of cat food, 2, 3 liter bottles of Ginger Ale, 3 bottles of vitamins that I was going to get at Sam's (much cheaper by the way), and his meds! I knew it was going to happen. It never fails, LOL!

I picked up some OTC meds yesterday, plus a few other things. Garbage bags, batteries, and a couple $1 headlamps for my grandkids. I bought 2 jugs of pool chlorine for Christmas gifts. My kids had trouble finding it last year. I found a car tire pump at Goodwill that I have been wanting.

I use to take Cranberry capsules regularly and that habit fell by the way side years ago. Last year I had a UTI, hadn't had one in at least two decades. So I started taking Cranberry again, told my doctor that and she said that would work. I have a year's supply of them.

Hope he gets rid of it quickly.

I think him drinking 3 bottles of citrus green tea a day is what is doing it. It may not be causing the UTI, but it certainly can be aggravating his bladder making it more suseptible to it. We can't figure out what is causing him to continue having the UTI in the first place, though. It is something he will discuss with his Urologist when he sees him again in December for blood work.

I've made him stop the green tea, and have him taking D-Mannose daily. 500mg 3 x daily.

SouthernBreeze I remember those little round powder containers with the powder puff! I loved it! I haven't seen them in decades.

What have I done? I dried more apples. Ordered more dog food since Sam's didn't have it. Bought more dried beans, marinara, Alfredo, pasta, 20 lbs potatoes, and more. I just ordered the Ecoflow solar portable power pack with 2 solar panels. I think we'll take the big, heavy generator to the farm. We're trying a TP-less bathroom. We'll see how that goes. I need to can some meats and beans. Probably won't happen this week.

I have cheese drying to wax tomorrow. If that goes well I plan to do a little more.

My Sam's continues to be low on produce and only keeping stock on bottom shelves for most part. WM had lots of holes. Aldis also understocked. I went to Goodwill looking for a cheap pot to melt wax, but they had very little of anything except crappy clothes.

Hope everyone has a good week!

I've been picking up things here and there, mainly topping off stuff I already have. While in Dollar Tree I bought 4 bags of the freeze dried strawberries. I have some in #10 cans, but didn't want to have to open any of those anytime soon. Anyway, 2 bags fill a pint canning jar. So I now have 2 pint jars vac sealed and put away. So $2 a jar. If you are freaking out about LTS food running out, it is a great way to put away some fruit for the future. They also have apples. The second Dollar Tree I hit this week didn't have either, but the first one had plenty. Will be headed back that way tomorrow to pick up a few more.

Went to the pool with the neighbor lady again this morning - that's three days in a row since I went Sunday with grandson, and Monday and Tuesday with the neighbor. Maybe that's why I took a nap in my recliner this afternoon. I have to admit that it has sure has helped with the stiffness from sitting in the truck for so long while we were on our trip. We are planning to go back to the pool tomorrow morning; not sure what she has planned for the rest of the week... I may be glad to go back to work Saturday night to get some rest

She had to have labs drawn, so we ended up in my work town, where I did more coupon shopping at CVS: 2 more six packs of Ensure @ 10.99 each and 1 four pack of Ensure @ $9.99 to help restock the shelf - total $31.97 plus .25 tax, so $32.22. I let 'em round up for the food bank (gave 'em the 78 cents change), so $33.00. I had $5 and $1 Extra Care Bucks, a $6 off $30 coupon, a $5 off 2 - 6 pk of Ensure and a $3 off 1 - 4 pk of Ensure Max - total $20. I don't know if I had some other type of discount on my card, but I must have because I was out the door for $11 - it should have been $13. And got back a $5 Extra Care Buck and a $4 off $20 purchase coupon good through next week.

Then we caught a sale at the local chain grocery store - I accidently left my receipt in her truck but we had store coupons for everything I bought - got 4 Folger's coffee for $5.49/tub, 4 spaghetti sauce for 99 cents/can, 4 each Manwich and Brooks chili beans ditto, Progresso soup for $1.49/can, 3 jars of Parmesan Cheese for $1.49 each, and 3 jugs of Purex Laundry detergent for 99 cents each. Between the two of us, we had to use a buggy to carry it all out to her truck, and barely got it all stuffed in the back seat area with our swim bags and the other stuff we already had in there.

Our weather forecast keeps changing but the 10 day forecast shows highs ranging from 61-72, and lows ranging from mid 40's to mid 50's. And more rain in the forecast for the next three days, but after that is supposed to be clear for a bit. Still no frost but I'm going to take the buggy down to check on the persimmons just in case...

I'd better go get my non-perishable groceries put away; it was all I could do to get the other stuff in the fridge before I took my nap this afternoon!

Take care all; stay safe out there - and don't let the news make you crazy!

Topped off the 55 gallon drum with gas so we are set with fuel for generator.
Did a lot of mowing for fire mitigation, that wore me out. Also cut a bunch of brush for the same reason.
Light snow here this morning and supposed to get down to 20* tonight.

DH bought 4 packs of split chicken breast and 4 half pork loins that Kroger had on sale so I canned 14 pints of chicken breast today. All the bones and skin went back into the cooking pot to make broth. It’s waiting in the fridge to be canned up tomorrow. I’m planning to can the pork this week too and I already feel worn out.

SB and amazon- I buy Windsong scented powder in the round container with the puff.

My green bean problem has been solved, although I won't go into details. suffice to say I'm good on green beans. There is not much of anything else I can think of that we may need that we have to money to buy. We'll make do.

I was looking at the list of recalled Crider beef and I don't have any of what is on the list. The only beef I have like that is Keystone.

I need to get a chicken out of the freezer and put it in a crock pot. One month awhile back we got 8 whole chickens in commodities and I have 6 left.

Camped out at Mid Continent Liberty Festival in Spavinaw, OK over the weekend. Came home with 10 goldbacks, $100 more than I arrived with, and a few things I bought/bartered for. It was fun.

Both hubby and son were sick from allergies, and could not go with me. Hubby got tested, and it is NOT covid. He has a bronchial infection, probably caused by post-nasal drip from allergies. He would be better off with covid. Then his job is safe and he would qualify for some of those special Bai-Den dollahs. As it is, he will probably be fired for missing work for anything not covid related. Oh well. I'm a prepper. We can handle it.

I miiiggghhhht have enough canning jars now. I duuno. Maybe not. :shr:

One of the things I got at Midfest is a quart of 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide. The medicinal uses are numerous. From what I understand, I can use it with my nebulizer. I will keep researching this b4 using.

BOOKS books, and more books! Since I lost my copy of Humanure Handbook long ago, I invested in a new one. I also got a foraging guide written by Dr. Nicole Apelian, Lost Ways by Claude Davis, and a book by Derrick Broze on quitting the technocratic State. I also got copies of the foraging guide and Lost Ways for Weebit. Knowlege is a great prep.

You might want to reconsider leaving a generator at your farm if you don't live there. Thieves around here will take them before anything else. One of my friends concreted the legs of his to the ground, which dh told him was stupid, because he couldn't take it to the shop to be repaired if it needed it. They ended up having to leave it when they moved, because they couldn't get it out of the ground without a jackhammer.

Research juniper berries for UTIs. I read that just a few will clear it up. What I read said our Eastern Red Cedar is a juniper and their berries work. Do your own research. I have not tried them for UTI or anything else.

I did some research on the juniper berries, and it's good to help clear UTI's. But, it's not recommended for those with high blood pressure which Cary has. I enjoyed doing the research, though.

Haven't got much done for preps except horse stuff.
There are still so much garden produce left to deal with.
Remember when I told you my son called me late at night as he got lost hiking? He made a video about it called "Lost in the woods" on his yt channel.
At the very end he shows us at our hike group, kids and me I look like I just crawled out of a hole but it was a great fun day in the woods. He ended up coming along for 4 hours.
His yt channel is my signature on here, if your interested.
There is Awana tonight so I'm resting from the running today.
We got my ceiling in cabin done and still need a few small pieces of flashing. My bookcase is coming along good.
Took boys and friend to Lego club last night to have a small respite from the horse issues while they were all dealing with it.
So far so good.

I waxed the cheese I had drying. Definately a learning curve. My pot was not deep enough and I underestimated the amount of wax I needed. I'm glad I did it. It's nice to learn something new.

Thanks for the link Cagedbird. I'm ordering one. Sounds like you got some great books.

Renee, I used to coupon and got away from it. You can definitely get some deals.

SB, for uti's don't forget the simple things. Lots of water, frequent urination, urination after marital relations along with cleansing of those areas. I've used Cranberry, but I think you said he's allergic....Maybe his doc can recommend something preventative. Some people seem prone to them.

Sounds like everyone is staying busy.

SB I almost forgot about cream of tartar to treat UTIs. I have used it many years ago. I think I took 1/2 teaspoon 3 times a day. I think 1 day fixed it. It has been over 40 years ago. I do remember it taste absolutely horrible! I just did a quick search and it can lower blood pressure and too much can elevate potassium. Once again do your research.

I ordered the book Foraging in the Ozarks. I ordered one for each of our kids. I just think it might come in handy one day.

I don't usually have the bandwidth to watch You tube, but I had to get up early this morning, so I was able to see your cameo on your son's video. I thought you looked great! you have a lovely family.
It decided to be summer again, the humidity has been so bad I have almost broken down and turned the ac back on.
I finally finished cleaning out the last of the kitchen cabinets. I left the high one until last because I had to stand on the ladder to do it, and I don't like to climb anymore. I only have one cabinet that goes up to the ceiling. This house was designed by an idiot and cobbled together out of the cheapest crap possible. Dh said we could remodel if we ever got it paid off but we are both too old to do it now.
I went to the dump and got a bale of hay this morning. Got a lot of things I need to get done but I just can't find any motivation.

You can buy test strip (AZO brand) at WalMart that will tell you whether you have a UTI...

Summerthyme

I did not know that. That's a great idea for keeping him checked from time to time to make sure he doesn't have another one slipping up on him. We were wondering how we were going to keep a check on it, after he finishes the antibiotics. He never has any symptoms at all.

Right now, he is drinking only a limited amount of black coffee, lots of water, a glass of ginger ale a day, taking the Macrobid, and D-Mannose. I have extra strength AZO on hand if he should need it. I have to keep that for myself for my bladder issues.
