...there, but for the grace of God...or, “Missed it by that much...”
In early April, 2017, I left my job in central Wyoming to move to Nashville, to look for a better paying job than the state job I had in corrections. My son had been there for nearly a decade, and was quite successful in his music, songwriting, and band projects. I stayed with him for three months during this time frame.
The 2008 recession had kneecapped the state of Wyoming’s economy (and therefore state funding, jobs, agencies, etc), and in nearly nine years, I had not received a raise (nor anyone else). This was nature’s way of telling me to move on.
With three fairly fresh college degrees, I was looking for a higher level of tech, and years of tech and customer support skills and training solidly behind them. Within three weeks, I had received several interviews and some cool possibilities.
The job I really hoped to get was supporting customer service for Lyft, at their headquarters in Nashville. It was downtown, among a huge amount of well known restaurants, museums and tech...
Lyft had their offices on the 4th floor of the historic Pilchure Building, 144 2nd Ave. North.
I was there early, arriving via a Lyft ride. Those double doors to the left led to the elevator, and then up to the 4th floor. Had a great interview, but just wasn’t what they were looking for.
Stepped outside and called my son, who came to pick me up. While waiting, took a look around the street. This was next door.
Notice that little guitar looking sign in the upper right corner. That is B.B. Kings restaurant and bar, actually a nice place, quite upscale as well.
You’re asking, what does this have to do the with the Christmas Day explosion in this thread?
This. Remember B.B.‘s sign? Good, it’s important...
Notice something familiar on the right side of this picture? Next to B.B. Kings club, was the Coyote Ugly bar, and next to that was Dicks. Several more of these businesses up and down 2nd Ave.
Like I said, I didn’t get that job in April 2017...and I’m now so glad I DIDN’T.
Sometimes you just never know what the Big Guy has in store for you...or not.
