Trump staffer tweets photo of White House renovations kicking off: 'West Wing is clearing out now'

Now that President Trump has left the White House and kicked off his 17-day getaway to his golf course in New Jersey, renovations at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue are going full-steam ahead.

Dan Scavino Jr., the president's director of social media, tweeted on Friday a photo of an empty Oval Office with a step ladder near the fireplace.

"Renovations underway at the @WhiteHouse," he captioned the photo. "One hour after Air Force One is wheels up??the Oval Office is empty. West Wing is clearing out now."

As ABC News previously reported, the West Wing will be cleared out for several weeks for much-needed repairs.

Work has already begun on White House grounds to replace the 27-year-old heating and cooling system, the second stage of a renovation that started under the Obama administration.

Other work includes painting and new carpeting in the West Wing and refurbishments in the Oval Office. All of the renovations will be conducted by General Service Administration designers.

Trump took to Twitter Wednesday night to deny a golf.com report that while speaking with members at the Trump National Golf Club, he said the White House is a "dump."

"I love the White House, one of the most beautiful buildings (homes) I have ever seen," he tweeted. "But Fake News said I called it a dump - TOTALLY UNTRUE."

Leaky walls. The White House has been totally gutted with the exterior shell the only thing left. Personally I think what truman did was criminal. I was in his modern home (for those days) in Key West, I think his old lady didn't like the character of old stuff, and truman was paranoid for fear someone would discover some of his covert activities, and he likely bugged the entire mansion for use during his tenure and afterwards.

When Harry S Truman became President of the United States, he inherited a White House that was structurally unsound. A lack of investment during the Depression and war years meant the mansion was in danger of collapse. Between 1949 and 1952, the President moved out while the White House was completely gutted, leaving only the outer walls around a shell. The mansion was then rebuilt using concrete and steel beams in place of its original wooden joists.

This is not Trumps call to make and the same for obama, these things by law must be done and the President has no say in the matter.
First witch hillary clinton would go off on anyone that was preforming requited simple repairs and maintenance in the White House while she was in the building, billy boy had to get after her after the staff made a stink about her tirade.

i read a different article on this renovation, and trump was quoted as saying 'We struck gold!" meaning they found bugs, the electronic kind.

i remember before barryO left office there was mention of renovations in white house going on and it was also mentioned that they would not be done for several months and trunmp could not move in right away. ha. he did anyway and a fast rush job to finish up obamas delaying tactics.
smelled of barryO planting bugs everywhere.

i had alway assumed that every room was swept electronically for bugs on a regular basis. hope they get them all and find out who ordered them to be planted and nail their butt

The West Wing includes the following:

1 The Navy Mess.

“Navy Stewards have provided food service to the Commander in Chief since 1880. The modern White House Navy Mess was established under President Harry S. Truman in 1951. The Navy’s culinary specialists prepare and serve fine foods in the West Wing.

Seated reservations are available to senior officials including commissioned officers, Cabinet Secretaries, and their guests. Staff located in the West and East Wing can enjoy food made in the Navy Mess from a take-out window located adjacent to the dining hall.”

2 The Situation Room.

“Months after being sworn into office, President John F. Kennedy was confronted with the Bay of Pigs Invasion in Cuba and insisted that intelligence information feed directly into the White House. The Situation Room was established in 1961 to meet President Kennedy’s request.

The current “Sit Room” is a 5,000-square-foot complex of rooms that is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week to monitor national and world intelligence information. Televisions for secure video conferences and technology can link the President to generals and world leaders around the globe.”

3 West Collonade

4 Rose Garden & South Lawn

5 Cabinet Room

“In the Cabinet Room, the President meets with the Cabinet Secretaries, members of Congress, the National Security Council, and foreign Heads of State on topics ranging from energy efficiency to national security.

When the President meets around the large mahogany table with the Cabinet Secretaries, each is assigned a chair based on the date their department was established with the oldest Cabinet departments seated closest to the center. The President sits at the center of the table with his back to the Rose Garden doors and opposite the Vice President.”

6 Oval Office

“As the official office of the President and his primary place of work, the Oval Office provides the President with easy access to his senior advisors and the Executive Residence.

Beyond its distinctive shape, the most famous feature of the Oval Office is the Resolute Desk. Made from timbers of the H.M.S. Resolute – a British navy ship – it was presented by Queen Victoria to President Rutherford B. Hayes in 1880. Since then, the desk has been used by every President with the exception of Presidents Johnson, Nixon, and Ford.”

7 Roosevelt Room

8 West Wing Lobby

“The West Wing lobby is the reception room for visitors of the President, Vice President, and White House staff. The current lobby was renovated by Richard Nixon in 1970 to provide a smaller, more intimate receiving space.”

9 James S. Brady Press Briefing Room

“During the Nixon Administration, more space was required to accommodate the growing press corps. Therefore, in 1970, the briefing room was constructed on top of the emptied pool that was installed for President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s physical therapy.

In 2000, the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room was named in honor of former Press Secretary James Brady. He was shot and disabled during a 1981 assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan. Today, the current White House press corps is made up of about 200 members. With just 49 chairs (arranged 7 by 7), it is up to the White House Correspondents Association to decide who gets these coveted seats. A plaque on each seat displays the name of the news organization to which it is assigned”.

Fertile ground for listening devices. Wonder how many "leaks" will be taken care of while the renovation work is getting done?

Remember when Trump was interviewing and choosing his early cabinet members? He did it at one of his golf course club rooms, if I recall, and security was tight. Only way the press knew who was being interviewed was by camping out where their cars were being parked and who got out of them. Trump "knew" . . . . so hopefully security will be tight where he will be on this "working vacation" and if big decisions/actions are coming down, he (and his telephone calls) will be safer there?

Bold above is not QUITE accurate. It was predicted that the renovations would take aprox 2 years, so no, they didn't get ANYWHERE on them before DJT moved in....

This is what Trump should have done when he first got into the White House, tear it down to the studs and then get the 'electronic pest control' guys to debug the place and then up goes the new drywall. V

It just seems a bit odd that Obama's house is only a couple of miles away from the WH.......is there any kind of electronic eavesdropping which can carry specifically to a certain address and not be picked up by snoops?

This is old school technology but is this what you are referring to? I'm sure more sophisticated devices have been developed.

The Thing (listening device)

The Thing, also known as the Great Seal bug, was one of the first covert listening devices (or "bugs") to use passive techniques to transmit an audio signal. It was concealed inside a gift given by the Soviet Union to W. Averell Harriman, the United States Ambassador to the Soviet Union, on August 4, 1945. Because it was passive, needing electromagnetic energy from an outside source to become energized and activate, it is considered a predecessor of Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology.[1]

Operating principles

The Thing consisted of a tiny capacitive membrane connected to a small quarter-wavelength antenna; it had no power supply or active electronic components. The device, a passive cavity resonator, became active only when a radio signal of the correct frequency was sent to the device from an external transmitter. This is currently referred in NSA parlance as "illuminating" a passive device. Sound waves (from voices inside the ambassador's office) passed through the thin wood case, striking the membrane and causing it to vibrate. The movement of the membrane varied the capacitance "seen" by the antenna, which in turn modulated the radio waves that struck and were re-transmitted by the Thing. A receiver demodulated the signal so that sound picked up by the microphone could be heard, just as an ordinary radio receiver demodulates radio signals and outputs sound.

Theremin's design made the listening device very difficult to detect, because it was very small, had no power supply or active electronic components, and did not radiate any signal unless it was actively being irradiated remotely. These same design features, along with the overall simplicity of the device, made it very reliable and gave it a potentially unlimited operational life.

Thanks for this tutorial, OGM.

IMHO PDT should have gutted and dissected every part of the WH before ever moving in. Hope efforts to protect him and his admin begin to turn the tide on this slo-mo Deep State mess that has isolated and surrounded the POTUS by ensconcing their own all around him.

Hope they have also swapped out the furnishings and art work, replaced The Great Seal carpet and scanned The Resolute desk, Lincoln room furniture and the traditional White House paintings of Dolly Madison and George with an electron microscope.

I remember that interview
Obama was smug and smirking
Bragging how they fixed it up real nice for Trump

Set off bells and whistles to me as The implied Undercurrent of Obama was braggart sarcastic and self congratulatory
