Actually, that's not far off.

Dh talked me into going IN to McDonald's the other night. Haven't been inside in years. Very rarely will drive through for a quick burger when very busy, skip the fries because they've been horrible for years since they changed the oil, but I do like their coffee. It was sooo weird. We were the only ones inside. I'm still not used to the ordering kiosks, and I *HATE* their menu that keeps changing! I'm a very fast reader, but I just figure out where to look for what & they pop to a new screen. Ugh. I was looking for the screen that had the "specialty" burgers...because we so rarely eat out I wanted something interesting...couldn't find it. Turns out they have a couple of variations of the quarter pounder, and that's it. (They haven't had salads since COVID.) Then one screen popped up that looked like the "better" burgers til I looked again...they have tricky names but one is a quarter pounder with chicken nuggets on it, and the other is a huge thing stacked high with burger patties, fish filets, and I don't know what all else...that one was called "land, sea, and air" I think. Not sure what the air part was...LOL! Really desperate to look like they have some good burgers, I guess. :) Oh, and everything is EXPENSIVE!!

Dh was shocked at my extreme reaction (because he will basically eat and enjoy anything that's called food...LOL!) but I told him loud & strong that I have officially banned myself from McDonald's forever!!!

I remember well. Mom used to send me to the little market. Weber bread had Disney decals on the end. 15 cents.
We had the bakery delivery trucks too along with ice cream and tinkers who sold everything from produce to cigarettes. Thifty ice cream 5 cents a scoop.

Man,

and you had to hitch the horses to the wagon... and all that?

Our groceries have jumped from about $150.00 per week to around $250.00 but to be honest part of the jump is adding more prep items.

I have learned when we have a steak to have several sides.... by doing that we don't finish the steaks ......so we save the leftover meat and use it in a stew or a beef veggie soup ....we end up getting about 3 to 4 extra meals from the steak..doesn't take as long to cook as stew meat...so we have fuel savings also....the flavor is wonderful...add a good bread and you have a great meal.

If I spend $24.00 for 2 steaks and end up with a total of 8 meals for the two of us . I am spending only $3.00 for the meat per meal. The veggies for soup or stew are inexpensive. Doing this we can enjoy steak more often. Just an idea.

Same here. Grocery bill for us has gone up around $200 a month over what I've been spending. I'm learning to stretch meat as well. One roast will last us 3 meals, so it's not that expensive when you look at it that way. More veggies added is a bonus for healthy eating habits, too.

I have a roast in the crock pot for supper tonight. Tomorrow night will be roast beef sandwiches. Next night, I'll pour over BBQ sauce, heat, and will have BBQ sandwiches, or I might use in another recipe that calls for beef.

Hmmm, good idea!
I’ve already cleaned them up, divided into freezer bags and in the freezer they went.
Maybe with the next ones I’ll do that
Or You could use them as roasting breasts, save the roasted skins and bones and make roasted chicken soup. Saves you a step. I save skin and bones in the freezer till I get a gallon bag full then make soup in the slow cooker.

I just bought halibut and king salmon from Vital Choice and their wild Pagonian scallops are 2 lbs 54.99.
The other ones are 74.99 for 2 lbs. No decent fish around here. I like their 6 0z portions they sell. The other Alaskan sellers sell big portions. VC also has a 4 oz portion. The 6 oz piece is big enough for both of us.

OK, lets talk vegetable starter plants.

I start from my own seed, but sometimes the seedlings don’t do well, and I have to buy vegetable plants from a local nursery.

Some of my broccoli plants from my seed were puny, so I stopped st the local nursery to buy a six pack of them.

For years, their price has always been $3.98 Plus tax. Last September, they were still $3.98 plus tax for a six pack of little plants.

Today: $5.19 plus tax.

Not surprising. Seed prices are skyrocketing, fertilizer has more than doubled, shipping is problematic, and demand is high.

If your home started plants are from fresh seed and are in decent starting medium, but still seem puny, your lights are likely either too weak or too far away. They should be 2-3" above the tops of the plants. Also, either run a fan on them or brush the plants with your hand a couple times a day... the gentle bending of the stems actually strengthens them.

Neither here nor there.
Sea scallops:

Two months ago, $17.99

Two weeks ago, $20.99

Today, $27.99

Part of this is because of the time of the year, are they in season, and the price of fuel to go out to sea and harvest whether they are wild caught or commercially grown. I have two cousins that are now docking their boats permanently due to fuel costs, increased regulations and china over fishing the seas.

There's a thread on starting seeds in the Garden Forum here at TBK. I don't have time to find the link right now, got some major cleaning to do before the flooring guy comes on Saturday to measure my kitchen and bathroom, finally getting new floors! Woot!!!

Yeah, I will check that out.

But this is the thread that is recording inflation in real time - and a 25%+ increase in costs over just a half of a year is what I call inflation.

The whole milk organic yogurt I used to buy jumped from $4.49 last week to $4.79 this week. I decided to heck with it and started making my own again. The new "low, low" price on 2-lb blocks of store brand cheese is a dollar higher. American Beauty pasta is $1.50/lb and very thin supply on the shelves. Most all the other shelves and supplies mare looking good because people can't afford to buy that much food anymore!!!

Just found a Meijer's burrito brand that jumped 107% in price. Shame it was my favorite. Meijer's is really hiking their prices, lots of empty shelves. Some of Aldi's items remain the same, others have risen 10% to 25%. All of Aldi's shelves are full.

I made a couple of quick stops at Walmart and Aldi today. I've been buying oranges from Aldi... delicious, sweet, medium size fruit, for 75 cents a pound. That's up about 50% from last year. But Walmart had 8# bags of huge oranges (there was 8 or 9 fruits in the bag!) For $9.99! That's over a buck a pound... or a buck per orange!
